All too common for English fist-merchants. Probably not young enough to have been named after that lad from The Pogues, but you never know with these new media whippersnappers. |

Registered 18 years agoWhy oh why didn't EG take Mr Jem Alexander to task over what he's been playing? And ask him why GOW collection still hasn't been released in Europe?
Why does SCEE lag behind every other region? Is it just incompetance? -
I have a question for the podcast peeps!
Eurogamer podcast fellows, do you think there will ever be next-gen game packaging which will be easy to open. For example the xbox 360 controller and mic packs covered in a tough plastic logic puzzle from the future. I have recently lost both my hands in trying to open these packs with scissors as there is no easy way to open them. I'm typing this with pencil rubber ends. Once cut the plastic is razor sharp, making it even more dangerous. What do you think about alternative, easier to open packing for the future next gen?

Registered 16 years agoThat last episode wasn't great. I detected a lack of confidence I think, which wasn't apparent in the previous episodes. I think you have to have some faith and conviction in the format and concept. If you start to broadcast the show like it is humdrum and routine, people will feel that way too and stop listening. I have really enjoyed the series so far and enjoy listening to the eurogamer team discussing games when I am on my commute. Is it difficult getting guests on? It would be great to hear some interviews with developers of popular games. How about Andrew Braybrook or Rob hubbard or someone like that? Hopefully whoever you get on will have a bit more to say for themselves than the last guest. -
Good suggestions dr swin, agree with you on them needing to keep it lively and freshen things up with new features and discussions. Nore more DLC talk unless you've got a dev in the room you can put on the spot. Ta!
No surprise Jem didn't have much to say at times, I mean he did say he used to work at joystiq.
At the risk of being cynical, it seems that often all these gaming blogs that have popped up in recent times do is copy and paste filler gaming 'news' - give them fanboy baiting headlines and watch the site hits pile up. -

Drink and a merry Irishman.

The ones will Ellie on the team are better in my opinion, as she's quite upbeat and strangely funny. Girls can be funny, who knew?
Edit: In this week's the Sony guy was having to be pushed by the host (whoever that randomer is) to develop his answer at one point. I almost felt like the Sony man was going to flash his palm to reveal a painted eye to an imaginery camera at any second. Difficult one for the host, but he kept it on track. -

My old Da always said "Find a woman that makes you laugh and marry her".
Ellie is lucky I'm married I tell you. Lucky I tells you!... cause I'm quite the catch me.. -

Right after you ban the "embargo" word. Even if it means moving the show day forward a day, as most of the reviews seem to come out a few hours after the show, or is that just my imagination?
This seems to be the main problem as far as I can see. I'll admit I don't know how long it takes to edit a 30 minute show but would it be possible to record on a Thursday and publish Friday so the reviews are already up for the week's big releases?
Also, if it's not already been suggested, how about focusing the show around a specific series every now and again? The FFXIII release was crying out for a special with discussions about the series as a whole. Which has been the greatest instalment? Most memorable moments etc.
All that said, I do enjoy the show tremendously and it's one of the few gaming podcasts that genuinely makes me laugh. If there's more drink as Vroom! suggests and more harassment of Ellie then I'll happily keep downloading. -

I said at the outset that they should record it last thing on a Friday with a few beers to hand and I think that's still the case. It's all a bit too stilted and self-conscious. -

Registered 16 years agoHow about a 'name that tune or sound effect section'? Or would that run into copyright infringement problems? It might be fun trying to identify some of those old tunes. -

They do.
They focus every show on Mass Effect 2. -

Next week we have Nick Baynes (Game Director on Split/Second) coming on the podcast. Let me know if you have any questions for the man and I'll make sure to launch them into his face. -

Bonus points if you mention the improved name suggested in the comments thread (I forget who by, sorry)
Split/Second: The cars that wouldn't slow down

I'm sure there will be unavoidable references to Bizarre's blur, seeing as both are out within a few days of each other, and Criterion's destruct-o-thon Burnout series, also by a British dev.
Could you ask whether there is much personnel exchange between the three studios that he's aware of, ie. employees of all three changing jobs and going to work for another of the studios? How much contact is there between the three of them, what's the relationship like? Do they organise charity go-kart grand prixes between them?
Following on from 1Dgaf's question about video game bundles, what other media would be part of an Ultimate Split Second retail bundle? Are there any films, books, or events that would be complimentary? Maybe a nice tin of camomile tea for ideal post-race relaxation? -

Registered 14 years agoWould like some form of competition to come back but actually make it a bit skillful like 'random sound of the week' but make it really fucking hard like 'sound of plucking a turnip in Mario 2' or whatever...you get my drift. Something that can't just be looked up online. -
Now thats more like it!
Questions, well in the preview on EG from last year a lot was made about how they were making sure its more than just a gimmick, and making the race AI a challenge without it feeling like the racing pack is being artificially kept around you.
Are you able to ask about how the final version is panning out in terms of the various set pieces and ensuring an exciting race without it going the way of Burnout 3 (excellent game marred by shockingly obvious rubber banding).
Perhaps by finding out what changes have been decided upon after the Expo demo from last year. -
Ask them if they'll ever make a game that's as good as Outrun 2. -
Thanks for the questions, chaps. I'll put a bunch of them into the show. -
Unless its too late are you also able to ask about the DLC being offered with orders at play.com, both in terms of what it offers and a view on the issue of arranging digital pre-order bonuses with one retail chain.
Doesn't it take choice away from customers to make their own choices, as that is the place they will go for, and reduce healthy competition on prices, often sites with this content keep the cost higher.
Cheers in advance. -
