Cheers for the benchies, all she plays is some game called Hoop-de-loop on King.com...repeatedly...forever. So as long as whatever i get can run that i should be fine.
Here's HD4000 benchmarks if you are interested

However when i am at home, i prefer to play games on my laptop, like the full version of football manager, or civilization, or random stuff i've bought on the steam sale.
I also wouldnt use the ipad to store all your photos on, it resizes them etc, its a nice photo viewer but not a store-r.gif)
Can understand the benefits of a tablet yeah. Right now i think storage and a familiar OS would be best.
Fujitsu it is, unless anyone knows of a better bang for buck out there... -
Right guys,
I'm buying the wife a laptop. I know roughly what I want - but where to buy it from?
What are the best websites for buying laptops? Who is (relatively) cheap and reliable? -

Registered 14 years ago@grey_matters yeah I did, cheers g_m! Bit of an issue with payment though both times I've used them. Quickly sorted over the phone though.
Delivery costs about £10 to Ireland if I remember correctly. -

Registered 14 years agoNot sure if this is a deal worth mentioning or not, but there's a Lenovo Laptop available for a good price on Dabs for less than £500.
Its a good spec (3rd gen i5, 8gb, 1tb, GT630m 2gb), and you get £50 cashback and if you use the code '15KCHEERS' you get £10 extra of plus you can use Quidco or Topcashback for 2% cashback on top of all that. Works out at about £482 delivered. Only 2 left in stock though...

Registered 15 years agoThe new i5/i7 laptop chips run very hot, so if anyone buys a lappy with one in, check the temperatures. Get a HW monitor and run futuremark or prime95 to give the CPU a good workout and check that the fans and ventilation are up to the job. -

Registered 14 years agoMy laptop died recently and after umming and ahhing for a while over whether to replace it with a tablet or netbook, I've decided I'm probably best off just going for another laptop.
The Lenovo Buztafen recommended earlier in this thread looks pretty good to me, especially with the cashback and Windows 8 upgrades deals. Unfortunately, I'm woefully out of touch as far as these things are concerned. Does this look like a decent spec for the price? -

Can anyone recommend me a laptop that can run Team Fortress 2/ Source games at medium to high quality but not too expensive. Other than TF2 etc will just be running classic PC games really but whilst I could easily buy a cheap PC laptops are massively confusing. -

My Steam/ Civ games are calling me back to the PC master race (and having a PC with moving lots isn't really practical at the moment). -

Registered 17 years agoMy girlfriend is looking at this Dell notebook, I wonder if anyone can tell us if it's good enough for her needs? Or if we could get something better for a similar price?
She'll require it to run Photoshop well and to play games such as The Sims 3 and Left4Dead 2 at fairly high settings.
Here's the system:
Dell Inspiron 15R
Processor Intel Core i3-3110M processor (2.40 GHz, 3M cache)
Video Card 1GB AMD Radeon HD 7670M
Memory 6GB 1600MHz DDR3
Hard Drive 1TB (5,400rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
Screen 15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED with TrueLife
= £330

I have a Macbook Pro, and I greatly recommend it, it's great.
Except it isn't, it's mostly a multimedia toy, like most newer Apple stuff.
So, don't listen to me, that's one advice I can give you. -

Registered 14 years agoIs it possible to get a decent-ish laptop for around £200? Will mainly be used for web, email, office and will also be left on constantly as a download machine (not sure if a netbook would cope with this use). Not fussed about operating system, could happily live with XP or Vista. Any help appreciated, as I'm not tech-spec minded, so not sure what I should be going for. Cheers -

Whatever you do, dont get a netbook. They don't excel at anything and are uncomfortable to use due to usually too small keyboards. For me buying one was the single worst gadget purchase, ever.

As you're considering netbooks, perhaps even this?
