    I'm not sure who is being serious and who isn't anymore but, basically, the rub is that a father might find it difficult to "confess" that a mother's kid is not, in fact, her kid.

    Generally the mother would know if such a thing was not true, on account of the kid coming out of her vajayjay. Unless some baby switcheroo was involved.
