Registered 16 years agoThe studio stuff is filmed on the Wednesday or so before though, isn't it? I can handle the excitement on the VT if the studio stuff is toned down. -

Haha, exactly this. Was quite unnerving.
Well, he did sport hollowed out looking eye sockets for years. The gaze of a man who has known death. It honestly looked like he was an extra that wandered off the set of a Tim Burton film or something. -

Ah, you're right, it was before- I went to one years ago, good chance it still is. Yay, there's hope.

Registered 18 years agoI like this thread, the other can be for moaning about Evans and how he is ruining the world single-handedly.
Enjoyed seeing the McLaren thrashed around the track by Jenson Button, he didn't give a fuck about price. Slide it into the grass? No problem, probably only 10 grand to repair a grass stain on the bumper.
I prefer Evans style with guests rather than Clarkson and his grumpy old man shtick.
Only criticism, I was curious about the F Pace, I would have liked to have seen a bit more car chat about it. Though seeing some genuine emotion in the challenge made a welcome change from the old series. -
I like the new show better than the past five (at least) seasons of older TG.
TG Extra is good too -

Registered 17 years agoYep, enjoyed last nights episode as well. Moreso than the first week. It's a decent enough watch, even had a few laughs in it. -

Registered 20 years agoIt's rather confusing having two active threads on same topic. Not sure which one should die to be honest though. This one has the funnier historical title, but it's strictly speaking out of date. -

Registered 15 years agoNo need for a new thread and shame to ditch all the historic conversations. The title to this thread is no more out of date now than it was then. -

Registered 15 years agoWatched the latest one. Evans just needs to stop trying so hard. He was really quite likeable in the section with Jenson Button (which was really good) but when he's parting about the studio it's painful.
Still think there's a lot of potential. Feeling much less forced than it used to. I hope they're focus testing it as it's so obvious which bits work and which don't.
Also Eddie Jordan isn't great. They could have done with a female presenter in his place. Jodie Kidd would have been good. -
Presumably Sabine meets the girl quota. I agree about the studio links being shit, TBH the SIARC bit has been improved IMO even if it is rich dudes willy waving, but it was always crap so there's a very low bar.
Overall I'm glad it's watchable again. I do like cars in a very childish way, but the Three Cunts approach to light entertainment just made me so uncomfortable I couldn't enjoy it anymore -

Registered 17 years agoThat dirt track bit is kind of daft though in terms of a fair test of laptimes, I reckon. There are too many variables now alongside the weather. -

Registered 16 years agoDoesn't even make much sense, a Mini is a pretty desirable car. The whole point of it was to see celebs trying to do a hot lap in a 1.1l shitheap, not having fun on a rallycross circuit in the appropriate car. -

Registered 17 years agoSurely that was always daft, though? None of them are trained racing drivers, so at best it was a bit of fun with the occassional proper car nut putting in an almost respectable time. It was never the Olympics. -

Registered 15 years agoI kind of feel like it would be more interesting watching shit celebrity drivers trying to cain round a track in a Lambo or something, but perhaps the risk of death is too high.
But yeah, I agree the rallycross thing is kind of pointless, but then I'd got pretty bored of the hotlap in a shit car thing as well. -

Registered 7 years agoMaybe the new rally cross will get more interesting when we're more familiar with the circuit. Part of the reason the original course was fun enough to watch is because you could gauge how fast they'd be.
I'm not a fan of changing up the course just for the fuck of throwing in a rally cross part and it's got excitable Chris Evans written all over it, I can see him gurning over the prospect a jump and a water section. -

Registered 16 years agoJodie Kidd is an awful lifeless presenter, thank god they didn't get her. I agree that Jordan is shite and utterly pointless though. -

Registered 17 years agoJodie Kidd was actually Ok on the classic car show thing they did with Quentin Wilson on the outside features. They were bloody terrible in the studio bits. Really fucking terrible. Once out of the studio and actually driving something about actually much more natural.
Not that I think they should be in the running. I honestly think the only thing wrong with the current lot is Evan's. Ditch him. Having watched the second Extra Gear last night I actually think Rory could fill the Evan's role. I was not too sure about them in the first Extra Gear but I thought they were much better in the second one. I can see them filling the anchor role the show needs.

Evans just needs to calm down a bit, not sure he's got it in him though. -

He wasn't crying about the car it's the memory it conveyed.
