Don't mock STSD (sandwich traumatic stress disorder)
My mum made me ham, cheese and cucumber sandwiches every day during my school years. I tell you now, I cant be within 50 yards of one without breaking down in tears. -

Having read that, the guy is an idiot.
“It’s a car I’ve always dreamt about, it’s a car I’ve come across before in my car history, and cars mean so much to me and have done for a - I’m going to go again now!”
Getting teary, he said: “It’s not about a hunk of metal is it, it’s about a memory trigger point.
“My mum bought me my first ever car, she couldn’t afford it, and so… it was about that.
“It was about being overwhelmed by such an amazing car, and I suppose what I’m saying is, that the only other car that’s ever made me feel like that car did, and actually moreso was the Mini.” -
Yet more fucking bragging about owning cars. This one he didn't even pay for!!! -
He's starting to look like Darth Sidious in some of those pics -

Registered 18 years agoTwo threads lol. But the other one has a shit title.
Genuinely enjoy the show again. Loved that ferrari didn't think it was that ugly. Fuck trying to drive it though.
Always hot hatches so was always going to be a winner for me. Drift mode! I liked the new Civic when it first came out but the tweaks on new version and that R-type was uggo. Mercedes making hot hatches doesn't really make sense to me. Not really clear on who is in that market? Too expensive for most of the younger market and too chavy for the older crowd.
Guest segment was good, though wasn't 100 percent into the Ken Block bit but I never liked any of the scripted segments in old TG either.
Good stuff. -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, I'm with you. This thread was the original and should remain as so. New thread every year then, fuck that.
Not a big TG watcher, caught the last 30 mins of this though. I quite enjoyed it, thought Rory Reid was excellent. Hot hatch section was ace, genuine joy. Evans was decent as an interviewer, don't really get the criticism. Sticks a bit too close to the old formula, but as someone said, the Change will no doubt more gradual. -

Registered 16 years agoMercedes AMGd up an A Class because Audi knocked out an RS3, because BMW did a 1M Coupe. Now we've got racingsport hatches from the big 3 as standard, and they're selling pretty well so they'll keep making them.
The Harris on Ferraris bit was great television, more of that please. -

Agreed. The Harris section was proper motor journalism. Best part of all the new episodes by far.

I'm not really a car guy anymore but I'd love a go on that Ferrari on a track -

Registered 15 years agoIt was a great piece, and one Evans- even with a complete script by someone else- could never deliver. He's just a shallow excitable man-boy and probably gets as hyper over a new Nespresso machine.
Bung Evans on studio linking duty, if they really must, and let the others do the car stuff. And I really hope the Evans-gets-sick thing isn't going to become a thing thing. -

Registered 16 years agoI think that was the plan all along, with Evans playing the part of the sacrificial lamb and keep the frothy mouthed viewers happy. They could have had the best, most complete package from episode 1, but the hardcore Clarksonites would hate it on principle. Now they get rid of Evans and the argument has moved onto how much better it is without him, instead of how shit it is without Clarkson. -

Registered 15 years agoThe whole series has been pre-recorded no? So this must have always been the plan. They're just making it look like a reaction to make people start watching again.
Thought Sunday's was quite good apart from the London bit, which was awesome at first then got super boring. -

Registered 16 years agoChris Harris said in an interview that following the original 3 would be an impossible task, and anyone doing it would have to be paid enough for the rest of their career because they'd never work again. This way he's following on from Chris Evans instead of Clarko. -

Registered 15 years agoI doubt it, personally. I can't see Evans agreeing to sacrifice his "brand" to make a show, down the line, work.
It's the films that are all in the bad kal- the studio/linking stuff is filmed each week so there's the ability to react to news etc. -

Registered 15 years agoYeah, but they're saying those are the bits that will be less Evansy, not the studio bits. -

Registered 16 years agoThe videos that Harris and Reid made for the first two episodes were much lower rent than the main show, I'd be surprised if the production values for the rest of the BBC3 program coincidentally jumped at the same time as they announce they'll be using more of their videos in the BBC2 program. -

Registered 17 years agoExtra Gear has shown what was known all along: they have a fucktonne more footage in the can than makes it into a segment. Wouldn't be too onerous to go through what they've got and tweak the balance somewhat to lessen Evans' presence if they wanted to. He's already just one of, what, five or six peeps doing them anyway? It's not like the old Top Gear where Clarkson was in the majority of the thing.
I really enjoyed this week's show, in fact it's getting better and better. Bad plan putting it up against the Euros though. -

Registered 16 years agoRory Reid in a Volvo PHEV looks like it cost about 20 quid to make. You can't tweak that up enough to replace the Chris Evans in a super car with lasers stuff that's in the can already. -

Registered 17 years agoThat wasn't what I said, though, was it? They clearly have high quality stuff each week from lots of different people in the main show - you could edit Evans' solo stuff to be shorter, and the rest to be longer, should you choose.
If Evans is the problem people are making out (and I don't give a monkeys, it's a non issue for me) then I imagine they have options in the edit. -

Registered 15 years agoI think the point is there's only so much they can do with the super high quality luxury stuff which will always have to make up a decent proportion of the show. -

Registered 15 years agoBut the Evans on acid and with lazers stuff is what people are saying they want less of, I doubt there would be too many complaints if the films become a bit less glamorous but, crucially, a fair bit more informed. -

Registered 15 years agoAmazingly it seems like what people are responding to is the proper old-school William Woollard era bits - i.e. informed and intelligent people reviewing cars that normal folk might consider buying.
All the high production high jinks stuff is falling flat. -
It's probably because the high budget stuff was introduced over time originally as a bit of an event. Having it in from the start, it's taken for granted and feels a bit tacky and soulless.
