Nobody watching the new series? I'm sure we must have discussed the last series which was on last year, but I dunno where we did that.

Last weeks episode was...unremarkable. I'm finding Chris Harris's screen persona increasingly annoying, but that may just be me.

It's been fairly good. As you say, unremarkable, but they still do car porn very fucking well.

I like Chris Harris but yeah, I don't like that they've made him the grumpy one, and Rory the idiot one. They had a good natural dynamic in the first series but they've doubled down on the 'personalities'

True, I preferred last series to this thus far for that reason.
It felt like it had pulled away a touch from the formula and bought itself a bit of space. Now, it�s the same scripted lols but with three less objectionable twats.
Until the Eddie Jordan episode, natch.

It has LIDERALLY been Reid as the enthusiastic-young-scamp/Hammond. Harris as the grumpy-voice-of-common-sense/May and LeBlanc as the bombastic-ringleader/Clarkson.

Can't these stock stereotypes be applied to most comedy trios though?

e.g Rodney, Uncle Albert and Delboy? Ray, Egon and Venkman? The three amigos, etc.

That�s not really the point, even if the statement could be proved to hold water.

Here was a chance to refresh the BBC Top Gear offering, improve it, maybe modernise it.
Last series it felt like they might be feeling their way toward that but thus far this season feels like the producers have massaged the three replacements into the narrative shape they want and lazily fell back into the same old groove- Last Of The Summer Wine, with cars replacing the bath tub again.

Just give em time. I'm sure one of the eps in series 48 will feature someone in a bathtub heading downhill. To be fair the old season did feature someone sliding on a tea tray, but that was Amy Williams and she was sliding on an skeleton track.

Watch the BBC fuck up a fairly good thing by switching him for Patrick Kielty, James Martin or Paddy McGuiness.

Ah that's disappointing. Though his on the script jokes often tell flat, his enthusiasm for the cars he drove was great to watch.
