I wish people would use an example other than the parking one.

    It's such a stock example.

“Special leave is given for men to be out of barracks tonight until 11pm”, which implies a rule that in other cases men must be in barracks before that time. So, in its strict sense, the principle is arguing that the existence of an allowed exception to a rule reaffirms the existence of the rule.

It's the easiest one to comprehend.

Water not being a chemical element aside, how would this exception prove the rule?

    God says it's an element.

Are you arguing with the will of our all mighty lord?

If he does then ban him.

That's still talking legal jargon, rather than any sort of trend.

Explain the phrase when used thusly:

"All Need for Speed games suck"

"Need for Speed Most Wanted was good"

"No, that's just the exception that proves the rule".

EDIT : So did Luc Beson!

Yes, Water, Earth, Air and Fire are all classical elements. That's why I made the distinction and said chemical element.

Hel is the daughter of loki banished to the relm of Hel by Odin as punishment for loki's deeds of bearing monsters as children. it seems schools don't teach you anything anymore? ... yeesh!!

    Just another thought.

You know, i am not so darkness person as you think =). There some real problem to pay for games from "noneurope" country. Cos credit cards are not so widly using, and i don't want to create international payable credit card to buy 1 game per year.

For example, i realy want to buy incredible "Mount & Blade", but without credit card it's immposible to do.

PS: Using russion Webmoney electronic paying system, but america/europe doesn't work with it. :(

Another example of the shitty community eurogamer has become.

Back in the day this guy would have been ridiculed for his poor grammar, yes, but some kindly soul would have taken them under their wing and offered a game code or too.

You lot make me sick, poor, defenceless Ukanian, out in the cold with a slow internet connection and a phobia of paying for one time games.

He's a real gamer, he recognises that only back when games used to be 2, even 3 time games were they worth paying for.

Back then no one cared about profits and what a sound, what a graphics? what a showcase (!!!!!!!!!!) heh, games had everything, plus when credit cards weren't so widly using elsewhere he could buy games with cash, not now. :(

The first usage of the term was in a William Congreve play, IIRC the exact quote is "Heaven hath no rage like love to hate turned/nor Hell a fury like a woman scorned".

Loki's daughter was called Hel, yes, but that's not where the phrase comes from. If anything, it's merely where the etymology of the word "Hell" comes from, but the actual quote itself has absolutely nothing to do with Norse legend.

Seeing as the history of English Literature is far more important than Norse mythology, I've got to wonder what they were teaching you at school.
