    Roll is apparently a fair bit easier.

    The whole Consume/Trade, Produce bit is a complete bastard to explain, especially with a few drinks underway.

    @TheRealBadabing Could you get one that you flip upside down and use as a coffee table in between games? Looks like a lot of fun but it also reminds me of corounne. A game that I hate because that's what I got to play as a child, when all I wanted was to play 8-ball.

    It's. Not. The. Same. Thing!

    Have any of you ever Cold Played a game?
    i.e. unwrapped it infront of the group and gone "OK, let's see how this works..."

    If so, how did that go? Reason I'm asking is because it was talked about in two podcasts I listened to this weekend. Who would do such a thing? Sounds highly irresponsible.

    Yeah the iconography is so clever it's like a language of its own, but it's so worth learning. Really great game.

    @StarchildHypocrethes

    Btw his newer game Res arcana takes about 10 minutes to understand, really easy but the strategic depth is still there.

    It's brilliant too, love it. But it's very nerdy fantasy themed and I get the impression you like your games in a sci fi setting more?

    @Tonka

    Not at all. I'm sure loads of people aren't at all interested.

    I'm intrigued by some of the ideas because I like breaking games down , I find gaming mechanisms interesting but I won't be backing it either.

    Just had my first game of Arboretum (and my first lunch game ever) and it's everything people are saying. Amazingly packed with tough choices. Fantastic game. I lost but it was fairly close and yeah... will play again

    Yes, yes it is.

    Loooove Arboretum but sadly haven't played in months.

    Can't think of many other games that have that perfect blend of simplicity and really difficult decisions. It gets to the stage of not wanting to get rid of any cards with minutes just APing 'can't get rid of that one, can't get id of that one' etc etc.

    @danathjo I was also surprised near the end when I noticed that the draw deck was running out and that I wouldn't have enough time to execute all my grand plans.

    Today was a two player game. Tomorrow will be three I think.

    Sweet! Straight in for that when it arrives.

    In other news, I just snagged a copy of Crusader Kings for 40 quid. Been intrigued by it since it was announced and for that surprising price thought it was worth a look.

    After glaring at me from the shelf for a while Iíve managed to get in a solo play of The Networks. And itís ace. The solo game uses card draws after each turn to burn cards and/or end of round bonuses for each action you take, lending a bit of push your luck to your strategising: will that card I need still be there next turn? Or should I take it now and risk this other thing? That and an increasing risk of screwing your game up the longer you stretch out each round lend the whole thing a lot of tension and prevent it becoming something you can just math out from turn 1 of each round.

    Played one game of Black Angel - quite a head fk! It's so different to anything I've played before I found it quite confusing at the start but after a little while it began to flow nicely. Could be a huge winner, but too early to give a conclusive opinion.

    Going to try a solo game this afternoon while the kids head out into the sun lol. (sod sun).
