    @Tonka

Thanks Tonkster. I think I'm going to buy!

The solo mode can't be that bad though. Was designed by Ricky Royal, I'm a fan.

It's not bad, it's mean! Really mean. Great way to hone your skills I reckon. Has openend my eyes to two tactics I wouldn't have gotten from just reading the rules and pretend playing against myself for a couple of rounds.

But it's super mean and cheating and evil and I hate it! Which, I suspect, is the whole point of it.

Oh, it's gone up in price. Not that it was cheap when I bought it. I paid roughly 64 of your sterling pounds with shipping.

Give it a pass and save your money for either the Kickstarter for the reprint of John Company or the Kickstarter for Oath. Both by Cole Wehrle. (The guy who made Pax Pamir and Root)

The new edition of Castles of Burgundy just turned up. Iíve been wanting to play it for a good while.

I've played this twice and not really a fan. It's too loose for me. Too many options. I prefer much tighter games.

And yet you enjoy Tapestry? A Feast for Odin must really live up to its name if it has more options than Tapestry.

Yeah, Feast for Odin is pretty ridiculous in that way.

I quite enjoyed Feast for Odin the couple of times I played it. Am playing Tapestry or Barrage on Thursday, and will try to give the former a fair chance, despite Not being wholly convinced by it design-wise

Everyone needs A Feast for Odin on their table, as long as it's big enough...

They're completely polar opposites. You only have 4 tracks of 12 spaces each in Tapestry. There are very defined races to each landmark. If someone beats you to the next landmark, that's it. Or if someone beats you to the middle of the island, that's it.

In Feast for Odin there's always something else you can do, you can largely ignore the other players. Someone takes a space you want, you just take something else that's almost as good.

That's what I mean. Interaction. It's almost non existent in Feast - and for a worker placement especially that's really weird.

Maybe you're thinking of just options / things / mechanisms in general. I'm referring to gameplay specifically. Tactical options.

TLDR - You can only do 1 of 4 things every turn in Tapestry. And what someone else does can influence your choice. In Feast you can do 1 of 50? and what someone else does 99% of the time really doesn't matter.

Yeah, I am keen to try it, although when my friend showed me the box I did say that I thought the designers had gone "full prog" with the components!

Anyone interested in City of Kings or Blood Bowl with a load of extras let me know.

Need to make room for a collection of nerdy historical euro stuff.

    City of the Big Shoulders
    Pax whatsit 2nd edition
    Brass Birmingham

I'd like an 18x game.... not sure about opening that can of worms though.

    So far.

I'd really like something as engaging, heavy and tight as Terra Mystica / Gaia Project with a really good solo mode. Not sure it exists.

Oooh, I could be interested in City of Kings. Been tempted since it came out, but ever quite enough to pull the trigger.

What are you looking for it?

@Gregolution Game Brain podcast had a lengthy review of City of the Big Shoulders and it sounded like a lot of fun.

Pax Pamir 2 e Night be the game you're looking for btw. It's engaging, heavy, and had a great solo mode. Mean, cheating, bastard hard solo mode.

    Great game.

I've got the deluxe version with the 12 quid extra large box, the 4 expansion characters , the minis, the anti knock sheets etc etc. Cost me around 150+ shipping so asking £120 shipping included.

I'm way too easily swayed by hype. My FLGS got the all-in pledge for Arena The Contest today. Looked up some reviews, saw overwhelming glowing praise (some are calling it the next Gloomhaven), bought.

With that and 7th Continent Classic arriving Friday, I'm going to need another bookcase for more shelves of shame.

What about Architects of the West Kingdom? I don't have any worker placement games... I love games that play a bit quicker these days. This fits the bill?

Ah, ok. Cheers Greg, will pass on that though
Struggled to commit to the 50 odd quid the base set costs previously, so won't be going all in on the full set. Thanks for confirming though.

I played a pretty cool euro at the weekend called Vindication. Unlike most of them as its almost like an RPG in its fantasy theme and initial structure, when it's actually a cube-conversion / worker placement / efficiency engine hybrid thing. Plays pretty fast and was very enjoyable.

Also highly recommend Underwater Cities. It's like Terraforming Mars crossed with a worker placement game. It's very cool.

Gods, I hate the hype. I am getting better though. Kind of. I think I won't be backing 1861 Kickstarter and I didn't order a copy of Undaunted Normandie (despite it being cheap as chips over at 365Games)

On the other hand I'm reading every scrap of information posted about Oath. Really setting myself up for a dire disappointment there.
