Hoping mine turns up today. Supposed to be the best villain yet

Think Iíll stay away from Kang for now, not sure it will really work solo. Really feels like a big group villian. Be curious of solo/2h opinions though.

Ooft. Got my arse kicked trying to complete night off the zealot. SPOILERS AHEAD!

During Midnight Masks I didnít get a single cultist from the deck so then when I had all 6 of them waiting for me before I could face the final boss.

Jesus, it was tough! Will have to reconsider my decks and go back to the start.

@Slurmseh I had similar, I think I got one maaaybe 2 but was still tough. Had to flee last 2 chapters, it wasnít pretty.

Home from work, trying to decide whether to spoil my afternoon, with zola or not.

This is my opinion. Fantastic group villain but a bit meh at low counts. The variety comes from the group split and tactically merging back with the other players. Itís not quite The Blob That Ate Everything but still designed around four player. Two player/handed itís okayish, but true solo heís reduced to ďhit until deadĒ as opposed to tactical play.

Ok so..............zola down first time, took my time and had to use my laser cannon to full effect to soften him and 2 heavy attachment boosted mutates. But looks like it was the right call 💪🏻
    Next time, red 💀

😎 donít worry skull will crush me and normal service will resume. There was one goof I made. I triggered scheme phase two early (forgot the per player rule somehow in my Ďexcitementí) which triggered two minions. After a round or so I noticed so reverted and skipped the next two requests to pull minions. But hard to say if it really had an impact.
Beyond that I cleared the ally side scheme and two more encounter booster schemes that were live at once but had things under control somewhat.
That laser cannon levelled the field somewhat With mutates that had a plus 2hp attachment, another with two hp attachments and inspired by monkeys sky cycle Goliath combo I managed to setup a heavy hit on zola during his second phase.

I think Iíve more than enough cards to tinker with my decks a tad in prep for red skull. I shall take a look in a bit see what speaks to me. Iíve not much idea what Iím doing but if I dig the aspect cards out Iím sure Iíll spot some improvements for me.

Red skull has a side scheme every turn, so keep that in mind.

And he starts off not being able to be damaged until his first side scheme is removed. Build for that.

I'm playing Zola later with SW and Hawkeye. Haven't lost to him yet, so will be interested to see how these two do against him.

Iíve tinkered with Hawkeye a bit from the content of core/cap/skull (as this is all I own)
    Iíve stripped out:
    Hawkeye ally
    Ready for action x3
    Sky cycle x1
    Earths mightiest heroes x1
    Avengers tower

    Iíve added:
Maria hill (also helps a tiny bit with threat)
    Make the call x3
    Helicarrier
    Quinjet x1
    First aid

Giving me a teeny bit of healing, card draw For all from Maria and the ability to draw her and Goliath back with mtc.
Quinjet to help with higher ally costs as I struggle to generate enough resource at times.
Obviously helicarrier will also help with this, hopefully helping with ally presence for protection.

Thatís a complete novice start anyway will try it before red skull and look at spider woman if Iím happy.

Checking the impact of building seems difficult, guess you have to pick a villian baseline and test from there. Iíve picked absorbing man as he gave me some grief. Will be interesting to see how it changes solo plus my tinkering.

And won, wasnít really very difficult solo, didnít quite get to test too many of my changes, but I could see some of the options it gave me although quinjet paid for Goliath, also an early quiver was a great boost and I usually have to wait ages to draw it.

Yeah I'm the same with Quiver. I've been able to play it once in four games!

Building decks really does help. And well done defeating Red Skull

Oh no, I wasnít fighting rs, I was testing my hawk deck with ab man.
Had a small tinker with sw base aspects
    Iíve stripped out:
    Press the advantage x 2
    Spider-Man ally (too expensive)
    *Skilled investigator x 2

    Iíve added:
    Relentless assault x 1
    Uppercut x 1
Daredevil, was a tough call between him and Jess jones but His dual response won out.
    *Followed x2

Some other justice cards I may have pulled but seemed to possibly suit rs, skilled investigator and interrogation room (Both of which I donít benefit from all that often).

*swapped these after forgetting to check cap extra cards.

    Aha, I get ya!

Just done Zola. 10 rounds. Ended up fairly low on health (5 SW and 2 Hawkeye) but he ended up with 0 threat out and I wasn't in any real trouble

Until the last round, when 4x Minions came out, 2 buffed up to the nines. Was glad I could finish it at that point.

They're a fun duo to play. Slower than some, but very fun and thematic.

And Red Skull obliterated in 3 rounds (technically start of the 4th).

SW and Hawkeye are made for that villain. Even had the Sleeper come out at the end of the third round.

    Brilliant duo.

@ChiefGB honestly it feels like that duo were made to squash him.

Only real lucky draw I got was using the 'draw five cards' upgrade at the start of my SW turn (I always keep the upgrades until Red Skull) and I got SPIDER-MAN ally.

Spiderman's 'when played' ability took out the side scheme that stops you damaging red skull, and I went to town. Other than that, just standard draws did the job.

Hawkeye is crazy powerful. He pumps out the sort of damage each turn I wish Hulk could.

Ok maybe I should put Spider-Man back in, just heís so expensive Iíve never been able to justify affording him. Swapping him for daredevil seemed less restrictive in when his ability could trigger.

Yeah, Having picked up on the ďearths mightiest heroesĒ ability (didnít realise a hero could use it) this can really pump up the damage options.

That is such a great card (EMH).

For Spiderman, I usually go down to alter ego the turn I get him, and keep him, so I can guarantee enough cards in the next round to play him.

That's unless the villain is due a big scheme that round, or I'm close to maxing out the scheme. And obviously he's less interesting if there's no side scheme in play.

He's fantastic for Red Skull though.

    Well, that was easy.
Red skull down after about 5 rounds.
I mean there was plenty of schemes in play but his first phase was almost beaten round 2 after crushing his opening side scheme in round one and followed by a venom blast and a couple of arrows.

That was the final 3 bosses on the bounce in the end.

    Winning!!

Fort and Jaws of the Lion shipping! The former was holding back the latter apparently. Fort looks like a nice little deck builder so looking forward to trying that one. Looks like the sort of game we enjoy playing in the house.

Jaws of the Lion was a bit of an impulse buy - I have tried to justify it thinking it will ease the learning/faff curve of the once-used Gloomhaven...

Taking another look at Arkham horror today, to decide if Iím in or not........I dunno, itís a tough sell.
That core box is still just brutal, as above I could buy something cuddly like fort, or punch myself in the balls, save money and probably have an easier time still 🤣🤣

Got the new Feld 'Bonfire' which is pretty good.

I foolishly late pledged for ludicrously expensive, slightly deluxe copies of Amsterdam and Hamburg (which are rethemed / updated versions of Feld's Bruges and Macao). £175 for the 2 games!

I could have bought 4 or 5 average priced games instead. Still, gotta have them!

Took a break from Arkham Horror to try out Jaws of the Lion.

Got through the first two scenarios fairly handily. It really is a great way to introduce people to Gloomhaven.
