Itís not a perfect rulebook I donít think, Iíve had some queries around ďfollowingĒ and the ďlookoutĒ. Thereís a few gaps when those two overlap I think.
What issues did you have? Maybe I can try help?

@ChiefGB There weren't any specific rules, just lots of times where we'd do something that 'felt' like it shouldn't be right, but was apparently fine. None of us have really played deckbuilders before, so I think the combo element was throwing us mostly. Lots of 'wait, I can just keep doing stuff' moments

In the main it does flow pretty well once you get going, that said Iíve only played 2p.
My wife enjoys it anyway, for a deck builder though itís pretty slight I think, thereís not a lot of time to specialise and thereís also not all that many options for ditching cards reliably.

My son was given Cards Against Humanity Family Edition for his birthday. I was sceptical but it stays just the right side of inappropriateness for my 8 and 11 year olds to find it funny as without causing discomfort.

@Matt_black thatís an awesome gesture thanks. Iíll certainly play him need all the help I can get against ronan lol. Although he seems crazy risky, but also possibly a lot of fun. Are you on the discord?

@ChiefGB no worries at all. Iíve gotten so many good recommendations for games over the last year from here. Iím still not opened the guardians of the galaxy expansion, kids really love legendary marvel. Iím keen to get them back into MC. My discord is mattblack13 #4941

Played Project Elite for the first time with four of us. Absolute blast! Great game.

I was dubious at first. Then as soon as the first 'action' turn went it was rock and roll!

    So Iíve been fiddling about with the GLOOMHAVEN: JAWS OF THE LION box. Iíve got a plan to introduce it to some people Iíve been playing HELLBOY with, as Iím really keen to try out the ĎHAVEN experience. As I was messing about I googled a little about what was going on with FROSTHAVEN and found that the creator had ruffled a few feathers;

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/frosthaven/frosthaven/posts/3185807

So long story short, he reflected on the storytelling in GLOOMHAVEN and decided to bring in a consultant to make stuff a little less homogenous and make sure he wasnít bringing real world biases into his work. I think thatís pretty cool, but a little mangled wording at the bottom (where he offered to refund backers) seems to have the Boardgame world in uproar.

Itís interesting, I noted when I was playing ISLAND SIEGE that Boardgames seemed fairly conversative in relation to a lot of medium. It does seem the tide is shifting a little and the reaction is to be expected. I donít agree, but there is a part of me that sympathises with the notion that safe spaces are being invaded by outside elements. Iíve an acquaintance, who I was real strong friends with in school, who is still disgruntled that the geeky interests that got his head kicked in, have become real mainstream the last decade and that he no longer feels part of the target demo. But I do wonder if a similar thing is about to happen with Boardgames, there seems to be an entire cottage industry of YouTube channels about Boardgames (which are all relatively new) and every YouTube channel with a cast seems to be indulging in D and D playthroughs. I do wonder if Boardgames are going to have that switch like Videogames did, where people just get into them en-masse.

On a less rambling note, I love the minis for JAWS OF THE LION. Very Bloodborne

Anyone pre-ordered a (video) game from Zatu? They have R&C for considerably less than elsewhere.

(Thought I'd ask here as EGers more likely to use Zatu)

Pre-orders with Zatu mean that you will get the game when they have it in stock, just the same as any other board game store. I gather that most board game stores get their games from only a few distributors so it's no better or worse than ordering from anywhere else. You could get the game upon release or you might be waiting months or even years. The longest I have waited for a game (not from Zatu) is 14 months.

I have had a mixed experience with Zatu. A few months ago I received a water damaged game that I had to dry out & I ended up getting a 15% discount on it. Some people here swear by Zatu & have had no issues whereas I know a few others have had loads of problems.

@Dougs they mucked me about royally, and I had to put a lot of pressure on for them to take a (albeit single customer) data beach seriously.

As rice says their are people that swear by them, but others like me who wouldn't touch them again no matter how much they discount a game by.

Try using boardgameprices to see if anywhere else has the same game on pre-order for the same/cheaper price

Playing Nemesis for the first time this weekend - had it sat on my shelf for a long time now (bloody pandemic) and finally have the chance to play it.

I use zatu fairly regularly and havenít had an issue, beware though, going on boardgame preorders they charge upfront, but that seems to be a bg hobby standard. Iíd assume that policy is across the site though.

R.e nemesis, still waiting on my wave 1 thatís due to dock tomorrow, or possibly June 5th 🤷🏻‍♂️

@rice_sandwich Cheers for the Railways info - I normally play in smaller groups, so will take on board your recommendation of Portugal - but of course will still need a base game, which may go a bit wasted.

Hadn't realised Age of Steam was so close to Railways (can now see Boardgamegeek says ROTW reimplements Age of Steam) so it's no more than 50/50 I will actually go through with Railways anyway - I'm just a sucker for hexes of tracks and trains to run on them :D

Too many games. Too little Kallax space.

Thanks all - I've used them for BGs and had no issue at all, but interesting to note their definition of pre-order! I will probably look elsewhere.

God knows what silly money that will all go for. Their games are too expensive For me, might be different if Iíd actually played any but I dunno.
Iím sure they can make a top game, but poker chips alone donít really do much for me, just comes across as insanely priced tokens.

Iíll still take a good look at launch as I did love me some Skyrim 😊

Yeah, I like CTG for their production values, but the last few games of theirs I tried I bounced off hard. I finally got to try Cloudspire the other week and it just did nothing for me. Too Many Bones is still great though.

Century Eastern Wonder is on sale for £15 on Amazon. At the moment. It's a game I really like, and I've busted it out to introduce people to Boardgames quite a bit. It, Splendor, and Azul are my holy trinity of getting people into games. Eastern Wonder also has managed to keep my attention way longer than Splendor as an actual, honest to goodness, game. I should pick up the other two Century games and try out the super edition which uses all three.

Thirsty Meeples get you to complete the pre-order once they get the stock and are ready to ship. Which is the only place I know to do this. You get an email with a link and make the payment and job done.

We had 3 very enjoyable games of Nidavellir on Boardgamearena with the very fine alt-cmd-esc, BearFishPie, kentmonkey and myself, with voice chat via the EG Boardgame Discord server last night.

It's an auction / card draughting game that plays smoothly & quickly. It was suggested that we start up a league for async play as we all enjoyed it so much. I even bought the game during our session!

If you want to join the Discord server here is the link:

    https://discord.gg/dECwt4G2QW

There is all sorts of daily boardgame chat, buying/selling/swapping of games, and so on going on. You can download the app on your phone or use it via a web browser.

I have to say that I check this thread much less frequently since starting on Discord as it is far easier to use & has much better features than this much loved but now sadly antiquated forum.

Their games are fantastic. The feel of playing with poker chips is much nicer than any mini, they take up less space than all that plastic and all of their games of hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay. They may seem expensive, but honestly they're quite good value if you take into account how much game there is in each one.

I'd say games like Marvel are more expensive and for less.
