Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales

High production values, terrible everything else. I had highish hopes after the one with the pretty mermaid, but this is just awful, straight to video crap. Avoid like you would the 2nd and 3rd films.

    3/10

    Thor Ragnarok

As good as everyone's been saying, though it feels like it's trying too hard. The Thor guy is so hot. Life really isn't fair. I liked God of War more, but the valkyrie in this is much better than all the ones in the other put together.

    8/10

    Pitch Black - 7/10

Still probably Vin Diesel's best role. Fun little B movie.

Thor Ragnarok - 8/10 Enjoyed it, one of the better marvel movies and genuinely funny. Korg is the best character ;)

I'm glad I watched this at home and spared the general public my big manly tears.

    The First Purge

Watched this at the pictures earlier. I have a bit of a soft spot for the series. However I think itís the idea I like, the execution is usually pretty average

This one is the same, itís not bad at all but not great either 68/100 (perhaps too generous)

One thing I noticed is that whoever makes these movies they must know gaming as there were quite a few subtle references to games both in the dialogue and visually

    @retro74

I really enjoyed anarchy and thought election year wasn't too shabby. This one gets terrible reviews which is a shame.

@Addyb_V2 it's absolutely no different from the other ones in terms of quality and execution so I can't fathom why it would get worse reviews that the others

They are all proper b-movie, five out of ten films but I can't help enjoying them more than that for some inexplicable reason

    Red Sparrow
Me and the mrs enjoyed. Some of the plot did seem a bit convenient and "easy" but still good. Jen Law ???? (Is that how you say it) was very good and hot!

So now we have this,Salt and Atomic Blonde, or similar, I would say AB is probably the best.

Me too. They've gone overtly political and the concept just has that little extra fascination to it over most recent horror thrillers.

Finally watched 'Touching the Void' (having just read the book). The structure is interesting, with a recreation of the climb and narration by the climbers themselves. Some of the descriptions were pretty horrific- Joe Simpson is clearly a tough chap. The guy they took along to guard their tents seemed really creepy- not sure I'd want to share a secluded camp site with him. Their tale did not make me want to take up climbing, but it was a good watch.

7/10 (& not quite as good as the book).

Surely Nikita is the blueprint for these films (and still the best)?

It also seems to have the plot of what I assumed the black widow movie would be.

    Sicario 2.

Brilliant sequel. Near perfect but can I pretend the final two minutes didn't happen?

    Burn The Place You Hide

Music documentary about a Norwegian singer songwriter called Thomas Hansen. Knew nothing about it in advance, but really enjoyed the film and found it very moving. Available on Amazon Prime, and well worth a watch.

    8/10
Nice. I will check this out

"Burn The Place You Hide" is a great title. Sounds like the name of a Woody Guthrie song.

Watching Die Hard 1 or 2 at any time other than Christmas is just plain wrong. Die Hard With A Vengeance is the summer Die Hard :)
  • Deleted user 12 July 2018 16:06:07
Die Hard is the perfect Xmas film, but it's also the perfect action film, so it's a film for all seasons. :)

Really not joking when I say it's perfect either. I can't think of a more perfect movie than it.

    Oblivion.

Not exactly original and it leaves nothing for the imagination or any ideas to chew on, but as a piece of general popcorn entertainment its fairly decent. Nicely produced and in general it looks fantastic (though all the future stuff looks a bit naff except for the tet). Pointless but entertaining.

I love Die Hard but I think I'm past my viewing enjoyment peak. The last time that I watched it it was feeling quite dated and the acting ability of the , spoiler TERRORISTS end of spoiler , was distractingly poor.
