I quite liked the creature design in it, too.

    The Other Woman

I feel embarrassed on behalf of women everywhere, this was awful, unfunny and the most misogynist film starring women (mainly) I've ever seen

    98/100

    Just watched Hanna

Actually really enjoyed it, though I must admit I switched over from Frontier (series on Netflix) which was such utter tosh anything would have seemed amazing in comparison.

Generally lots of fun, decent acting, good (weird) characters and very stylish, never boring. Great soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers too.

It's gonna be 4 out of 5 from me.

    Ghost Stories(Netflix)

Surprisingly good. Kind of felt like a feature length, slightly darker episode of Inside No. 9. Well worth a watch.

I didnít see what all the fuss was for ghost stories when I went to see it. Just didnít hang together for me in the end.

    Birdman

Michael Keaton is trying to put up a show on Broadway and stuff happens.

Too much gibberish. Stupid American ending. I love Edward Norton. A fairly leggy blonde. Very good.

Pacific rim (subtitle I can't remember) - 6/10 - It was Ok actually. If you want a big dumb action film it does the job. The story was a little over convoluted and a few too many sub characters I did not give a toss about but overall it was reasonably fun.

Split - Great performance(s) by McAvoy. Had the horror film issue of the victims acting really fucking stupid most of the time but I really enjoyed it.

Bit at the end felt a bit forced and tacked on, which it completely was. 7/10

Looking forward to Glass though. Unbreakable was pretty decent if I remember rightly, I might have to dig that up from somewhere.

Started watching Tomb Raider but fell asleep. Might watch the rest of it tonight. Some of the characters were really annoying and that bicycle scene was a bit nauseating.

Good summary and I'd recommend this. It falls apart a tiny bit towards the end but the individual stories are really good.

Ralph Wrecks the Internet. 6/10. Overly long and lost its way a bit in the last 30 mins as a result but still good fun. Not a patch on the first though.

Pans Labyrinth - after whining about the lack of craft in Pacific Rim 2 and having recently watched Blade 2 and The Shape of Water, I thought it was time for a del Toro season. I was going to start with cronos but couldn't find it within my short attention span window...

Anyway, the main two take aways are that: it's still the only 'fantasy about fantasy' I like (I find that sub-genre really tiresome) and the eleven year old Spanish girl is now the hot twenty something girl with the American accent in The Shannara Chronicles, if anyone has had to sit through that particular load of YA shite.

It was bugging me for ages. Time, eh? What's it like?

    9/10

    Crimes of Passion

A Ken Russell film, staring Kathleen Turner, looking.. better than she does these days. I didnít want to say it - her legs look in perfect shape. Back to the story, Google it. The Blu-ray restored from 1984 looks good. For a Ken Russell effort, its watchable, better then expected, and outright hilarious in places.

    China Blue/10

Next up.. the fully resorted Blu-ray of Runaway Train

That film is superb. Got the restoration youíve mentioned but not got around to watching it yet. Iím after the 4K restorations of 2001 and The Deer Hunter. I think 4K restorations of Clint Eastwoodís Dollars trilogy is arriving this year.

I remember watching Crimes of Passion with Ken Russellís commentary over it where heís talking to the writer. Very interesting conversation but at one point they took about 5 minutes just gushing over Turnerís legs. Was a bit odd.

Not a fan of Hellboy but I thought Shape of Water was pretty great. Blade 2 was good as well. Pan's Labyrinth is pretty much a masterpiece though.

He's been complaining that his script for Justice League Dark is completed and he can't get financing for it. His list of un produced films is as follows.

The Witches, Justice League Dark, Beauty and the Beast, at the Mountains of Madness, Fantastic Voyage, the Count of Montecristo, Mephisto's Bridge, Pacific Rim 2 )very Different), Secret Project (Untitled), Superstitious, Nightmare Alley, Haunted Mansion, the Hulk Pilot, the Buried Giant, the Coffin, Drood, List of 7

Edit: See below post. Thanks! :)

Don't get your hopes up. Watched it just over a week ago and it doesn't really get any better. Some of the action is okay, but the characters and plot are wafer thin. The tone is all over the place as well; seems to be stuck halfway between old doesn't take itself seriously Tomb Raider and the new darker take.

Read an interview with him in Empire and apparently McAvoy's character was in the original treatment for Unbreakable. He always planned to do follow-on films to Unbreakable but basically had a big strop at the dismal reception that the film received so did other stuff instead.

The entire premise appears to be woman fucks merman.

Is there more to this story than the erotic aquatic?
