Watched the new Soderbergh film on Netflix, High Flying Bird. Really interesting, dealing with racism and slavery concepts in the NBA and sport. Looks great, and is only 90 mins long. Recommended. 8/10 imo.

    Aloha

Strangely compelling despite being utter tosh. Bradley Cooper is kind of odd looking for a leading man. Wins points for having Blue Nile in the soundtrack 4/10

    The Lego Movie 2 8/10

About the same quality wise as the first one. Lots of fun and funny moments. The kids liked it too.

Tag. 6/10. Inspired by a real life story of a group of friends who have been playing a game of tag for 30 years. Has its moments, but not really enough there to carry a whole film. Better than lots of comedies though.
Yes it completely ran out of steam half way through, more so than any recent film in memory. The tone was also all over the place, even for a comedy. By the end it was approaching serious subjects with juvenile quips and what could have been a heartfelt ending just seemed bizarre and unsatisfying to me.

I really wouldn't recommend this film.

    Ida - 9/10

Beautifully shot film about a young nun and her aunt going on the most horrendous road-trip in post-WW2 Poland. Yeesh.

    The World's End

Final act of the Peggathon and watched in such close proximity to the rest it makes a lot more sense as a final act than it originally did at the cinema separated by years and a duff solo outings.

Knowing about Pegg's alcoholism and my own life being closer to those of the characters (we've all got that one mate who never got over sixth form, home town visits Stepfordy timewarps) meant this is probably more relevant and makes a lot more sense than at the cinema too.

Basically it's aged very well and has gained an emotional resonance it lacked on release.

    8/10

I originally really disliked Worlds End. Rewatched a couple of months back, now being 40 I really related to the movie, and suddenly it is great.

Not as good as Hot Fuzz, but still brilliant.

Guess I need to rewatch Hot Fuzz and Worlds End as I thought the were both pretty terrible. SOTD is good though.

    The Predator on DVD yesterday

I knew I was right - it was still just as enjoyable as it was on the cinema

    8 out 10

@retro74 You are trying to be provocative ?

You mean the latest, it is fucking abysmal, I can't think of a worse film I have seen.
I'm actually offended you say you like it, I'm going to assume you are playing, you have to be.

First time I've heard anyone say HF was terrible! I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw it at the cinema, but liked it a lot more on subsequent watches. Not as good as SOTD, mind.

Terrible is probably harsh but I didn't find it funny. Probably need to give it another go. Worlds End I didn't like at all though, felt like trying to watch an episode of Dr Who.

    Also

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

That was fucking odd. Lanthimos definitely knows how to create an unsettling tone but I'm not sure about the weird stilted dialogue and making everyone act like they've had a brain injury. It worked in the kind of alternate reality of The Lobster but here it was just distracting.

But yeah I kind of liked it I think, more for its weirdness than anything else.

@DUFFMAN5 honestly I really enjoyed it, very entertaining and quite funny at times

I love just how brutal the big Predator is, itís terrifyingly violent

I have to admit Iím perplexed as to why itís so universally disliked, itís a big improvement on Predators

A film can never have too many Predators, and they always improve movies, we've done this.

Kramer Vs Kramer, but Billy is a Predator

Is it fuck. I thought predators was pretty shit but it's a far better made film and at least is slightly coherent. The predator was a huge mess and thats why it's universally disliked. I've rather watch a film starring Mark Decascos or Olivier Gruner.

Yerp! Also in case anyone missed it or not seen it for a while, Yerp Guy is The Hound from Gane of Thrones.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Wright/Pegg/Frost stuff either, they're more annoying than funny for some reason. And Spaced hasn't aged too well. All massively overrated.

It's been quite funny to see Pegg walking back a lot of his early anti-prequel criticism after the internet held a mirror up to it when all the neckbeards started frothing at the anus about TFA.
