Some special effects are not that special. Are they just effects? The original Wolverine, Green Lantern, Justice League etc.

    A Ghost Story

Loved this. Basically, what if Ghosts were real, and what would they observe or feel as they watched the aftermath of their demise in the real life. It's a beautiful film, tender, emotional, nuanced, fleeting, harrowing, sometimes funny, and a little bit weird. It is far more than what the film starting premise too, halfway through the film becomes something different, and as ideas far reaching than i thought it would.

It ain't going to be for everyone, the first 20-30 minutes are really slow, it has one shot of Rooney Mara's character eating a pie that last several minutes, but if you stick with it, it is a film of many things, part ghost story, part love story, part sci-fi, full of ideas, and questions, some answered, some to dwell on. Loved it.

    A Ghost Storey

Sequel to the popular motion picture A Ghost Story. A family buys a house only to find it has a phantom third floor. Contains scenes of Rene Russo covered head to toe in ectoplasm.

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia

Turkish drama about a group of officials escorting a prisoner searching for a dead body.

Not a lot happens on the journey apart from a lot of philosophising about mortality and life and death but does just enough to keep itself interesting to the end.

    So I enjoyed Glass... sorry!

I get why people are annoyed about it though.

    Assassin's Creed (on Netflix)

I'm going to get lynched for this, but I actually quite enjoyed this. I did think the "stars" outside of Fastbender (who I thought fit the role) were a distraction and should have all been unknowns. I didn't think any of them were any good in their roles.

I've never played the game though, so had no idea what this would be about until I watched it and I was expecting utter trash from the reviews I've read here to date, but I thought it was okay. The past bits were the best, but I didn't mind the present bits at the all and will probably watch it again with my wife. There was a bit too much hanging around on roof tops looking mean and moody, but aside from that it was not a bad Sunday afternoon type of film.

Better than that crud Baywatch and Journey 2.

    The Terminator - 10/10

Better than T2? For me, yes but only just.

I ended up watching the special features which were all about the 30th anniversary. There are a good few interviews on there each about 40 mins long. They really did film the original guerilla style, which is easy to forget.

    Free Solo

Me and the wife watching this last night:

    "This is mental"

    "He's joking right?"

    "Fucking nutter!"

    "I can't watch...…."

Thoroughly recommended, assuming your ticker can take it.

    Up There

Burn Gorman stars as a carer tasked with looking after the newly deceased to get into the afterlife in this comedy. Looks at grief and moving on.

I use the term comedy very loosely as the running joke seems to be a guy who never shuts up and likes a perv at women. Thankfully very short at 75 minutes.

Went to the local revival cinema to see a themed double feature of Overlord, and... Top Secret. I guess the theme must have been Nazis, because they don't really share much else. Anyway...

A solid, simple action movie about Nazi zombie super-soldiers. It had basically everything I'd want from that kind of movie - the effects were very special - and it didn't overstay its welcome. The female character felt a bit superfluous, like she didn't really need to be there, but that's not a major complaint. It was just a fun little romp.

    Top Secret!

Overall it feels like the B-side for other things made by Abrahams and the Zuckers. The wordplay gags aren't as good as the ones in Airplane!, and the visual gags aren't as good as those in Hot Shots! (particularly Part Deux). That doesn't make it bad or anything, the humour just isn't as fully-developed as it is in their other movies.

    Anyway, it's still funny AF.

    Skeet surfing
The backwards scene, the underwater barfight (how the fuck did they film these?)
    The Anal Invader
"He caught a cold last week and he's just a little hoarse"
    Deja Vu

Saw Alita Battle Angel, and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the trailer looked proper guff, but it was actually a very good film.

I watched the first 30 mins of Overlord, with the only expectations that it would be so bad it was good. But it failed to even deliver that imo.... If a film about Nazi zombies doesn't grab me after 30 mins, then it's doing something wrong! (I may well revisit at some point)

    Happy Death Day

    A rubbish horror film.
    A naff teen movie.

Group of soldiers encounter some horrible shit during WW II D Day.

Shit reviews but I enjoyed it. Last 30 mins go a bit barmy and ruin it more.

Went in with zero expectations as the more recent DC offerings have been pretty poor. I really enjoyed it. Felt like a real fun popcorn flick. Jason moomoo is so hot right now. I'd also like to enter Amber heards sea cavern.

Overlord got pretty great reviews. Sitting at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
