    The Favourite

Yay, it's great! Just a brilliantly made, written and acted film. More The Lobster than Killing of a Sacred Deer, but less weird than the former and not as dark as the latter. And probably better than both. Lanthimos is well on the way to being a proper heavyweight if he's not there already and he's so original I can't really think if any other filmmaker to compare him to. Big fan.

Obviously as Olivia Coleman got the Oscar it's recognised how good she is in it, but to confirm, she really is very VERY good. I always think the most impressive acting is when you see a character go through significant change through the course of a film, whilst still clearly staying true and believable to that character. Must be so hard. It's something that I think defines the greatest performances and it's absolutely what she pulls off here. Emma Stone is also extremely good and she is now well beyond the 'Lindsey Lohan but with good parents' label.

Strongly recommend. I'm looking forward to a rewatch.

    9/10

    Review too long

    Big Short

No idea how accurate it is, but I found it very enjoyable and a far better comedy than the subject matter would suggest.

Some odd editing aside, I thought it was great.

Batman Vs the teenage mutant ninja turtles

    8/10

If the title doesn't grab you, then don't bother. If it does, prepare for a film that is a lot better than expected.

    Usual Suspects (1995)

The last time I saw this was on VHS. Still a captivating watch, although I spent most of my time trying to find plot holes.

When I watched it first time: 9/10
    After repeat viewing: 8/10

    Black Panther - 6/10

Loses a solid point fir the dreadful studio lighting. If youíre going to green screen in Africa perhaps ensure your lighting isnít of daytime soap quality as itís gonna fuck the illusion.

Other than that, I was also put off by the racial stereotyping. As in, strong black African characters are going to traipse around looking like they stepped out of a racist movie from the 50ís. Most technologically advanced people on the planet? Yeah, letís make them fucking spear chuckers. And yeah, Iím sure folks want to live in fucking huts when a few miles down the road thereís AC and fucking windows to keep out the insects.

Gained a point back for BPís sister as she made me feel funny.

    John Wick 3

Sat in a virtually empty cinema this morning enjoying this assault on the senses.

Brutal fight scenes that left me exhausted, lots of neon, guns, blood and an unexpected appearance by Halle Berry who wasn't shit.

Her ninja alsatians were the highlight of the film.

How can there be plot holes when the end means all or any of the plot was a lie? Itís both the genius and flaw of that film. Itís a great twist, but itís also a total cop out from a plot resolution point of view. Itís the equivalent of ďand then he woke up and it was all a dreamĒ. Fun though.

I think looking back the main flaw of the film is that it's incredibly noncy.

Have you read that as a theory somewhere or did you just completely get the film wrong on your own?

I suppose that thinking does kind of cement that Kevin Spacey is Keyser.

Detective pikachu -teeters right on the edge of being a good film.

The pokemans are actually quite well realised and the london-meets-bladerunner-meets-weeb vibe they have going on is kinda cool but the two leads are dreadful and, for some reason, one of the baddies is Milo Yianopolos.

Like transformers and a dozen other product movies, it would have been better with less humans in it.

But, yeah, it was alright but my daughter said 'thats the best film I've ever seen', so mission accomplished.

    6/10

Which bits? Time travel? Isn't that basically the synopsis?

    The rest was basically IW.

The correct response is, sorry I didn't think. I'll spoiler that.

Don't forget this is the same woe is me dickhead that was begging for money on here and elsewhere because he spent it all on drugs.

Still had time to get himself a new console though. Probably back on the drink and drugs too.

So good though. Somehow even more brutal than two when it comes to the detail.
