Yeah it seems a bit long as well, so whenever I consider watching it itís always too late for me to be arsed.

It was pretty light on the jump scares, so I guess someone might be disappointed if they went in expecting that.

But it was creepy (and yes, scary) as fuck. That scene where the kid wakes up in the middle of the night and his mum is just silently watching him in the dark is absolute nightmare fuel.

    Fast Five

Wow, I'd forgotten how gloriously dumb this movie is.

DEA agent on train full of civilians: WE'RE BEING ROBBED, WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T STOP THE TRAIN

...wait, what? There's a fucking hole in the train and everything is exploding. Surely this would be a good time to stop the train.

And then Vin Diesel mumbles about something to do with family, and more action things happen and man I wish I had some popcorn. Because this is great, and I don't know how anyone could think otherwise.

    Toy Story 7/10

Still very good but missing something the others had. Some really funny moments.

    Spiderman far from home 9/10

Easily the best spiderman and probably my favourite marvel film for a long time. I watched it on screen x which is a bit gimmicky but some of the scenes worked well with it.

    Midsommar

I loved this. I honestly don't know how to describe it but it's definitely not a horror. Reminded me of The Endless and the closest comparison I'd have would be Mandy but it's a better crafted film than both of those. It's flat-out hilarious at points and yet it still delivers a great study in how cults work. Brilliant.

    Shaft

Samuel L Jackson does his thing in a reasonably entertaining way. Other people do a decent enough job. Grandad should have appeared earlier :-)

There's a new one on Netflix. Although isn't this the third outing?

There were a few 70's Shafts. One remake and now this one. Which looks like Son of Shaft from the trailer.

    Ha, shaft. Like a penis.

Shaft in Africa is quite a thing. Kind of a spy caper and all the Africa stuff is handled about as well as you'd expect.

    Good soundtrack, though.

    Ready Player One

A rewatch, still a great time. A bit too on the nose from a gamers perspective. The line I donít like is that itís been known that the creatorís fave 1st person shooter is Golden Eye and favourite character is Oddjob - what, so heís basically a cunt then? :p
Best visuals though and there are great little references out there which most people wouldnít know of

    Blade

Decent special effects for the time. It falls flat when it tries to take itself too seriously. Which is to say, pretty often. The story is really stupid, but hey, vampire slashing action scenes.

    The Third Murder

I'm a massive fan of Koreeda's work, but i found this a little difficult to get to grips with. The film follows a lawyer (With two associates) who are defending a man who is accused of murder, as the film develops the lawyer tries to untangle the crime, the man he is defending, and in many ways himself and justice itself. Koreeda's recent output have been personable looks at family life, and whilst there are nods to that, this film is complex and hard to break down as the coldness and matter of fact visual storytelling in the film. Its bleak and removed, it's procedural yet elusive. The film is completely different to anything he has done before. The acting is fantastic, and I think it may be a film that rewards on repeat viewings, if i have read the film right, it actually has something profound to say about relationships that characterises all off Koreeda's previous work, but i didn't feel rewarded by it, i was a left a bit cold by it all as i was, i guess like the main character, trying to unravel the actual crime.

    Terminator

Still holds up, fantastic all round.

    9/10

    Atomic Blonde

Popped up on Netflix so thought I would give it a go. Absolutely loved it as well. Ultra violent, very very hot ladies, cold war action, a leggy blonde, more twists than a twisty thing and just great fun.

    Thor: Ragnarok

Been hearing lots of good things about this but never gotten around to watching it. Picked it up just now and, blimey, it's instantly become one of my favorite MCU flicks.

It's plain fantastic fun all around; good action, good humour, good everything really. Goldblum and Blanchett are as great as ever but all the actors seem to be enjoying themselves immensely and putting in that extra effort that makes all the difference.

I hope Waititi does more of this sort of stuff, he's clearly in his element :)

    An easy 9/10

    The Voices

Black comedy starring Ryan Reynolds as the troubled Jerry who receives moral guidance from his cat and dog.

Reynolds projects his personality in voicing the animals which allows him to play the main character a bit straighter to what we're used to and gives a rather decent performance humanising someone doing despicable things.

Fun film despite the subject matter.

    Creed 2 7/10

Very predictable and by the numbers but still a solid movie. A slight dip in quality from Creed but it is nice to see the cast back together as well as Dolph Lundgren.

Also enjoyed seeing Wallace and Avon Barksdale finally meet too.

I hadn't heard of this so went off to find it and found it streaming on Amazon Prime. Good shout that, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hah, good point I hadn't thought about that.

I agree with your score, the fights are done pretty well but overall it was pretty thin. I ended up messing around on my phone during the non-fight bits which isn't a good sign. Enjoyed it overall though as I do like a boxing film.

13 Hours : The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

8/10 - I dislike just about every movie that Michael Bay makes but this one surprised me. It's not quite up there with something like Black Hawk Down but it looks great, sounds great and I enjoyed it.

    Ghost Stories (2017)

What initially looks like a modern iteration of a portmanteau horror film is transformed by the end. It's incredibly daring really, to spend so much of the run time on what looks like well-worn spook story tropes to the point where you're almost ready to write the whole thing off and only then get to the point. But it can't work without the contextualisation.

It's nice to see a great British film featuring British actors, especially at a time when Hollywood's output has become so odious, dispiriting and unwatchable, leaving me with little contemporary film to watch.

    Rush 8/10

Well worth a watch if you like F1 yet thinks it's a bit dull these days. The two leads are excellent and it's very well realised representation of F1 in the late 70s.

Hemsworth as Hunt did remind me of Bro Thor a couple of times though.

I think you're right to an extent but thankfully it's less Vanilla than most of his recent work, especially the Han Solo film.
