I still haven't seen Solo. Should I even bother?

I've been rewatching a lot of SW lately as my son's really got into them.

Just showed him TWA. He went nuts at the end just getting a glimpse of Luke Sky walker... About to break his heart with TLJ >_

I thought Solo was good. Peeved that they aren't following it up with more as it's set up to continue.

It's definitely what cinema needs right now. More bland cgi sequels to bland cgi prequels

    It really is a shame

The best thing you can say about it is 'its fine'. It would have been better if it was just a space caper and not had LOOK! THE BLASTER! NOW HERES THE JACKET! rammed into it.

It just didnt need to exist but since it does, it needed to be 10x better just to make people care.

Totally that. It was fine, but it was a story that didn't need to be told. With every significant event in young Solo's life shoe-horned into about 3 weeks.

There's definitely some stuff there that's very filler and fan-service in the bad way, but it sets up something more interesting. I'd genuinely rather a sequel to that than The Last Jedi.

Saw Aladdin yesterday. I've seen the Beauty and the Beast and Pete's Dragon remakes, and the only one I think is decent is PD because they change up the story. These live actions remakes feel like imitations of the originals, shooting them beat for beat, almost scene for scene, while changing the punchlines to jokes that land worse and including a new song that doesn't properly fit.
It still has some spectacle and Genie's 2 songs still work the best throughout the feature, and because its still fundamentally Aladdin it is enjoyable, but the original animated version is head and shoulders better. Robin Williams is irreplaceable.

I'm looking forward to The Lion King for the visuals more than anything, but I hope it works better being fully animated and not having so much ingrained humour.

Sone of the lighting is nice.

I think I might have liked Dark Tower a lot more if I hadn't had any idea what it was based on and I'm not really even a fan of the books especially.

I did like the music over the end credits so that's one thing.

    Evil dead (2013)

Went in with zero expectations. Loved the original Bruce Campbell trilogy so kind of feared the worst.
It's not actually not that bad if you treat it as its own thing. Stupid decisions made, by stupid people. Buckets of gore, no comic element that the originals had. The deadites were well done though and that infamous scene in the woods was...well there. Not Groovy but not bad.

    7/10

Is that the one where a girl gets raped by a tree?

It was better than The Thing reboot/sequel so there's that at least?

Aye. Funnily enough I need to watch the thing remake. I know a few at work say it's not bad. Obviously it's not a patch on the original and I guess using cgi instead of practical effects will lose a fair bit as well.

    Elizabeth Harvest

A creepy old man marries a pretty young woman, and gives her the run of his mansion - all except a single room, which she must not enter. Of course she does, and it just gets weirder from that point on. It's not a bad thriller with tinges of horror, but does feel a tad drawn out.

    6/10

    Hereditary 🤷🏻‍♂️
Was alright I Spose, not in the least scary though. Weird yes maybe slightly creepy but overblown nonsense as usual.

Atomic Blonde, 5/10 was hoping for more but just another generic film, really didn't need to listen to the script, even the fight scenes weren't that great.

    The World's End - 7/10

The Simon Pegg/Nick Frost one. I've finally watched it and it was pretty good. Not a patch on Shaun and Fuzz but it's still miles better than most other comedies these days. I particularly liked how it captured growing older and flying the nest, except that one guy who's obsessed with staying true to his roots and teenage years. I know a couple of those guys.

    Bokeh - 6/10

Minimalist (almost to the point of really dull) post apocalypse movie about a couple who get stranded on Iceland. Intriguing and thankfully only 90 minutes long but not a huge amount happens tbh. One for genre fans.

I quite enjoyed it. Not the best film ever but I liked it. I probably liked it more than I would because I had heard it was so awful and I've not read the book.

I had to turn it off after 40 minutes. It's so bland and boring.

I thought the fight scenes were fantastic. Mcavoy has a bit of a crap character in it. Soundtrack is pretty decent too. Yes itís a bit overdone, but for me the action elevates it a bit plus hot Theron is hot.

Fwiw I thought the film was okay. I hadn't read the graphic novel so I wasn't sure what to fully expect and because of that I could only go by the tone and cut of the trailer which I thought created a different impression of what to expect from the film. Not quite a bait and switch but close.
