@RawShark Given that this is the 3rd time the film has been remade, you can't really blame it for having worn out tropes.

I just watched the Planet of the Apes trilogy (the recent one) and was surprised at how good they are.

@robthehermit Sure you can. Like instead of an evil British manager, you could have had R Kelly wanking into people's cupped hands.

Spiderman Far From Home - 6/10

For me Into The Spiderverse and even the PS4 game are far better at portraying spiderman than this movie, and the previous one for that matter. Why do they have to have goofy humour and some goddawful supporting characters and dialogue? Marisa Tomei is a decent actress, loved her in The Wrestler, yet in this shes given nothing to work with.. dont get me started on some of Peter's classmates and the embarrassingly bad teacher.

This film does have its moments though, some impressive set pieces and a stunning sequence which includes great imagery of Iron Man.

    King Auther (Guy Ritchie version)

Wow, what a right load of fucking shit. It's a rediculous Poe faced nonsensical boring shit fest full of wooden performances. 0/10

    Top Gun

Watching the new trailer prompted me to rewatch the original and it's still a lot of fun. Pure 80s cheese with plenty of oiled torsos on display.

Goose is the real hero of the show/10

    Marisa Tomei
I kinda stopped paying attention after that. Is there a lot of Marisa Tomei in this film? Marisa Tomei is dreamy

    Captain Marvel:

Why the hell did I rent this? I've no interest in jumping on the Brie Larson hate train so this review isn't based on her or her performance, the issue is that the film is terribly written and badly directed.

2/10 (and that 2 is for the cat).

Out of interest, what do you mean when you say "terribly written and badly directed?"

It was fairly dull, it wasn't particularly bad in any real way.

+1 for the NIN vest Bree Larson wears for most of it, and plus a half each for the cat and Ben Mendelsohn. The rest was dulllllll.

    Atomic Blonde 7/10

Pretty decent but I think the setting was wrong and made the film look a bit dated. I know that was the pony but Iíd have preferred something more modern day. Violent but as has been said also a bit bland. I felt Iíd seen it all before.

    Lion King 6/10

Photo real lions singing just looks plain weird.

Looks amazing overall but the animated version was better. The intro sequence with Circle of Live is still fantastic.

Avengers Assemble. Watched it again with the boy this afternoon, still pretty good. Maybe a 7 on rewatch.

    First Man tonight I think.

    Lion King - 7/10

Looked great, liked the very few added bits. Bloody predictable . Mufasa dies

Yeah, theyíre all really good and surprisingly intelligent.

Captain Marvel 5/10 Just very underwhelming and Captain is a bit boring. Up there with Thor 2 and Iron Man 2.

First Man - I should qualify this with first stating I had another dose of laser eye surgery for the haemorrhaging in my eyes and it has mostly borked my vision. I can only type this as I learnt too touch type when I was at school. So visually a lot of this was wasted on me. But treating it like a radio play it was still a bloody great story. It is quite slow paced, but it suits the story. I cannot wait to get my vision back and watch it properly.

    8/10

Night School/Class - Being a bit down in the dumps I thought maybe a comedy would cheer me up. And it did more than I expected when I heard the voice of one trick pony Kevin Hart. But it was mostly a predictable affair that took little risks.

    6/10

Lion King: Pretty much the HD remaster. Hans Zimmer has had another 25 years of sound tech to add to the mix. Though itís pretty much the same as the original, I noticed fragments heíd reused in Gladiator.

    The Upside

Quite enjoyed this. The ending was a bit twee in a they all lived happily ever after sort of way, but predictably aside it was good fun for a film based on a true story.

I would add that itís one of those films which feels a bit pointless given that it doesnít differ much from the French original, which is still a little twee but is clearly the superior of the two. Some films just donít need remakes.

    Philomena

This was on when I returned home from the pub last night and the evil nuns made me so angry I had to turn it off. Watched it this morning with a sober head and it's an excellent film. Judie Dench is fantastic. Steve Coogan was a bit of a surprise in a serious role, but carried it off. It's quite an emotional journey. Apparently it's a dark comedy, but I didn't really see the humour of it. I did feel that the church aspect was dealt with quite lightly considering, but that's only a minor criticism.

    8/10

    A simple favour
Liked the first 3/4 but thought the last bit got stupid, even for a "black comedy" two female leads very hot though!
