I'd like to see him stretch his range and go for a romcom next. Something like 'What Women Want'.

Joker 9/10 - I was blown away by it. Amazing cinematography, soundtrack, tension building, Phoenix was fantastic. Kinda surprised it’s getting mixed reviews but what the fuck do I know.

Thought it was ace. Should be getting some award nominations at least

You know what *really* grinds my gears? When you type that and it makes it bold.

Nah I don't think it will now, I think the controversy stuff will have tarnished it now. Which is a shame as Phoenix should be a shoe in. And also whoever did the cinematography.

I really don't get the controversy thing. There's plenty more violent films around about disillusioned outcasts with chips on their shoulders. Are the Incels taking it as some kind of champion?

It’s very much like Fight Club in that regards, in that instead of being able to understand nuance and subtext and realizing the broader message is “these people are crazy and their views are abhorrent”, they take it as something aspirational. Nothing to do with the movie’s content directly as it is people being utter fucking idiots.

I don't think there's much controversy about it now. Some people just had ideas about the movie before it aired, but now it's come out there isn't really much to go on.

I think it takes a slightly lazy approach to making the main character sympathetic, by having everyone be a complete asshole to him for no real reason, rather than actually giving him depth. But yeah the "controversy" thing is overblown.
