I know it's the norm to hate on Avatar but I bloody loved it. I'd make love to a blue un.

Avatar - whilst having a derivative plot - was a fantastic experience in the cinema. I remember seeing it in the I-Max and my eyeballs ejaculated all over the front of my shirt. I went twice and ended up getting the blu-ray. The blu-ray was watched once and I'm not sure I even made it all the way through as without that eye bending brain popping full 3D cinema experience, it just doesn't stand up as well. If the next installment is as visually engrossing, as I'm sure it will be, it's going to be a must-see on the big screen. I just need to remember the old socks for my eye balls to spunk into.

    White House Down

    Enjoyable nonsense.

Not as good as Die Hard/10

I really can't. Loved it in 3D IMAX but it felt lifeless on blu Ray. I actually felt the long running time without the 3D to distract me.

There was the nasty colonel in his mech vs the boring ozzie in his dragon. Plus some other shit. in 3D. It was good.

Cameronís been promising 4K HDR releases of The Abyss and True Lies for ages. Hopefully it wonít be the DNR mess that was Terminator 2.

I'd like to watch Avatar in 4K HDR and was surprised it wasn't even available to buy, which in turn revealed none of his works have been remastered for UHD. Like, why not.

At first I assumed it was for some sort of biopic, which I thought was fair enough. But no, it's a new film with him just playing a role. Couldn't they have found someone that had not been dead for 60+ years?

    @Kay

    Yeah, that's weird.

It's one thing to fill in a few scenes when a character dies mid-shoot / mid-series, but to use CGI to cast a dead actor in a new film is really creepy...

    Terminator Dark Fate

Great action throughout, despite some rubber bendy CGI Terminator now and again. Was great action throughout. Arnie was great. Still funny but not completely dumb like in Genysis.
Not much story at all really, and just all thrown together to give Sarah Connor one last run out seemingly. The Mexican girls story was paper thin really. Grace the upgraded human had a bit of a better story. Just not really any tension compared to T1/2. The Terminator like all the recent ones is just a guy. No menace.

Some spoilers of my stupid complaints.
After T2, I don't know why they don't always just send someone back to stop someone from creating these mental AIs. Why not just send Grace back to stop Legion, like how they stopped Skynet in T2??
Did Grace and Arnie really need to sacrifice themselves to finish off the Rev-9? It had like one arm and one leg by the end, and could hardly move. Couldn't they have finished it off without killing themselves? I guess they were all a bit fucked at the end.

    Fun action movie. 6.5/10

    Doctor Sleep

    I really enjoyed that.

Works as a horror/thriller and also manages the unenviable task of trying to offer something fresh while respectfully referencing The Shining book and film.

Ewan McGregor was great and his accent seemed to hold firm throughout. The same can't be said for his turn in The Writer, even though that is a terrific film. Standout performance from Rebecca Ferguson - swoon!

It was a little too long and that scene with the baseball boy can fuck right off, but otherwise highly recommended.

    8/10

Yeah, I said the same thing about that scene a few pages back. Me and the missus both thought that could just do one. Wasnt scary, just appalling.

Re: that scene in doctor sleep.

Apparently the boy had been working on that death scene for ages without the cast knowing it, and even they were shocked when he really went for it. Personally though I think it worked, as it throws into context how little they regard human life and how much they really deserved Danny and his friend to open fire on them without warning later on. It was harsh though but I would rather it was there.

    Frank

This has been on my to watch list for so long. Finally got round to it.

It wasnít what I thought it was going to be at all. I figured it would be a biopic of Chris Sievey, but itís actually a fictional work based on his outsider spirit.

Itís Michael Fassbenderís best performance, and thatís quite something considering. In fact the film just pulls the best out of everyone involved.

Loved it. All of it. Iíve had an emotional day but even so Iím not afraid to say I shed a tear at the end.

    100

    Terminator: Dark Fate - 6/10

Not exactly amazing, and downright silly in places, but it could've been much worse. A decent romp.

    Midway

Mostly shit. Ropey special effects. Some acting ok, Woody Harrelson and Dennis Quaid are in it, and a few others, but many others are mostly shit, include the lead US fighter ace, who was very shit.

Overall kind of shit, worse than Pearl Harbor.

    Shit/10

    Midsommer 8/10

Accurate tripping effects in a film that is totally fubar

    The Irishman - 10/10

I wasn't a huge fan of Goodfellas when I saw it years ago. Can barely remember Casino. This was sublime. 3 and a half fking hours. But it's so well directed and Robert De Niro is so awesome that it never drags. The others are great but De Niro carries it throughout. Scorcese absolutely directs the shit out of it. There is such a huge range of emotions: it's hugely tense at times, exciting, wistful. Definitely ought to be a big Oscar contender depending on all the bollocks surrounding Netflix eligibility etc.

Next to rewatch Goodfellas and Casino.

Ah, that got me all excited that it's out, but it's still a couple of weeks away. :(

Edit: On a related note, I actually watched Casino for the first time a few weeks ago after discovering that a decent quality version was surprisingly available on Youtube. Three hours long but it just flew by, epic stuff. I think I preferred it to Goodfellas, or at least what I remember of it.

Not sure I can trust anyone who wasn't a huge fan of Goodfellas.
