I thought Tilda Swinton was good in this , as were all of the cast , except for maybe Ewen Bremner who looked like Spud had survived the apocalypse , hmm maybe he did ?
Swinton was good in isolation, but felt like a cartoon and completely out of kilter with the rest of the ensemble. As you say, everyone in it was good/fine.

    Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Melissa McCarthy does not do middle ground. Sheís either fucking dismal (Ghostbusters, Happytime Murders) or sheís incredible. This is one of the incredible ones. Just a fantastic character study on isolation and loneliness, mixed in with a bit of a crime caper.

    9/10 cat poops

    Bladerunner 2049

I think it's superb. I think it surpasses the original.

One of the few films where the sequel is better.

I prefer 2019 to BR too. It's a really strong series.

Iím in the same boat. Though the second was better than the first. I actually enjoyed the sequel much more on the second viewing away from the cinema.

The original is one of my favourite films of all time, but the sequel did come surprisingly close to being as good. The main difference for me was that 2049 was just a bit obvious, it lacked some of the ambiguity of the first film.

Spectrum Gosling was perfect for the role too.

And his AI is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

I gave up after an hour, it bored me shitless. I really enjoyed Split but this just didn't do it for me.

Be interested to see how I feel about 2049 once Iíve seen it at least 20 times like the original.

2049 is a more modern film and is a little smoother round the edges because of it. But I have a feeling itís the slightly less accessible nature of the original that actually gives it real longerm rewatchability.

I thought the ending was great, the journey to get there was shit.

I saw the sequel in a suitably big boy cinema and found it stunning, really need a 2nd watch on the small screen to compare as I watched BR again since for that HDR goodness.

I've bought and watched both of them in 4K recently and the original still shades it for me. 2049 is fantastic but I just prefer the feel and tone of the original.

I put off watching 2049 for ages but when I finally did I thought it was amazing. Gorgeous looking film and I may personally rate it above the first one.

The soundtrack blew me away, one the most jaw-dropping cinema experiences I've had, both visuals and soundtrack just seemed to totally envelop you.

I watched the first one at a young age (80s kid)and didnít enjoy it at all at the time. The amount of cuts that got released over the years just made its accessibility even harder and it took me a long time and a few viewings to enjoy it.
Being in my late 30s definitely allowed me to enjoy the sequel much more than my first viewing of the original.

@RawShark This is indeed a great film, she's really good in it as is REG in (almost) full Withnail character.

2049 is a film I love but itís such hard work, im never in the mood to watch it, unlike the original which I can happily sit and watch whenever.

Also: Iím super psyched for Dune. Probably the film Iím most looking forward to this year.

I think 2049 is my favorite film ever... which feels like the wrong thing to say given it came out a few years ago.

Yes! Hopefully it doesn't bomb financially quite as much as BR2049.

Glad to see a lot of love for 2049, I thought I was one of the few people who found it excellent.

A youngish couple actually walked out of the screening when I first saw it. Philistines.

I thought it was tremendous too. It follows a very hard act but did it extremely well. I've not watched it again though, I know what nick means. It's a bit unrelentingly bleak so isn't always the first thing to turn to.

We had a VHS of Dune when I was a youngling, recorded off the telly, but the first 20 minutes or so was missing and I never had a fucking clue what the rest of it was about. Sand worms tho ó> 👍👍

Fingers crossed. Apparently, this will be the first of two parts, splitting the book in two at its Ďlogical pointí, so I assume it will go up to where he meets the fremen or something, so if the first part eats it, then the story doesnít get finished
