The first 20 mins really donít clear anything up. Itís a ludicrously incomprehensible film.

The SyFy mini series is worth checking out if you want to know what the plot actually looks like.

Also the documentary about the failed Jodorovsky version is brilliant.

Whenever I think about the worst part of 2049, he's the first and only thing that pops to mind.

Still vastly prefer the original, though, even after taking nostalgia, Rutger Hauer, and a young Harrison Ford into account. BR is much more dreamlike, impressionistic and intimate. It's also shorter and sweeter.

Tbh neither did Lynch. Fantastic visuals, but holy shit did they not understand what the book was trying to say.

Stupidly excited about the new film though, as itís easily my favorite book series. Just hope they donít go the same route of pretending itís not a story about how heroes actually suck.

I thought it was tremendous too. It follows a very hard act but did it extremely well. I've not watched it again though, I know what nick means. It's a bit unrelentingly bleak so isn't always the first thing to turn to.
I saw it twice in IMAX I was so enamoured with it. I never bother re-watching films usually (too many in existence to spend time doing so more than once), but happily forked out for it again. Was a great watch the second time too knowing the twists.

Went to see the Lighthouse last night and it is fantastic. Kermode's review pretty much mirrored my feelings. Defoe and Pattinson were excellent, the former having some amazing dialogue and delivery.

    Uncut Gems

It was damned good, all told. Probably had more right to be in the line up for best picture than most of the Oscar noms this year.

    That ending tho.

Dune, whatever cut you see is tremendous, scoring it above 6/10 is a disservice to film.

I kind of admire Lynch's Dune, though I'd never say that it was a great film. It's a failure, but an interesting failure.

    Parasite

It was fine. I don't know if it really should have won best picture, there were films I enjoyed more and thought more deserving.

    74/100

I don't know if Parasite was the best out of the nominees I saw (it was definitely better than Joker), but I'm still happy that it won. Hopefully it won't take decades and decades for another foreign language movie to win.

Parasite was the best Best Picture winner since at least the mid-90s in my opinion. There are still a few of this year's nominees that I haven't seen yet, but it's certainly the best of all the ones I have seen, so I'm very happy with the win, beyond it just being nice that a foreign language film got it.

That's not to say it's the best film since the mid-90s of course. It's possibly my favourite 2019 release, but there were definitely better films the year before, and the year before that, they just didn't win Best Picture.

Jurassic World- Probably the best of the Jurassic Park 'sequels' but that's not saying very much. The story & plot was ok I suppose but the kids were annoying, the bad guy was stupid & I can't even remember the names of the characters that Chris Prat & Bryce Dallas Texas played! - 5/10

Kong: Skull Island- What's not to like about this movie? Some parts are over the top & silly, most parts actually :D But the chemistry between Hiddleston's character & Mrs Cheese was very good, Samuel was great as usual & the story of Kong was told in a good manner. - 7.5/10

All the human characters in Kong pissed me off no end, apart from maybe John C. Reilly's. All the US army guys were thickos and I didn't get any chemistry from the other pair.

Mate... The Sonic film was actually alright / 10

Went with my 4 year old, we loved it. It's a kids film first and foremost, but it's filled with neat little nods to the games. Sonic wasn't anywhere near as annoying as I thought, was quite charming and the chemistry with the guy worked . Jim Carey was bonkers as well

I'm tempted to go watch the Sonic movie, if only because the sole showing at the local cinema is in the afternoon, so it will be cheaper. And I've got the Monday off.

I'll probably make up my mind at the last minute.

I'm going to watch it on Wednesday and I'm kind of looking forward to it. Mainly because it's the first time me and the boy are going to see something and also the fact his mind was fucking blown when he found out they were making a film of the game he plays on his tablet. Reviews make it sound pretty good too.

    Shazam

Primark Jimmy Fallon says some funny things, hams it up a little and shares the screen with some of the worst child, teenage and, later, adult acting performances I have ever seen.

The excellent Mark Strong puts in a terrible performance as the bad guy. The CGI deadly sins are pointless, and not the least bit intimidating or threatening.

It's so low budget it should have been direct to TV (in fact an episode of Arrow probably has more budget spent on it and better special effects) and the cameo right at the end was just the cherry on the 'ha ha ha, this is so fucking cheap it's hilarious' cake.

Was really looking forward to it, but some funny moments aside, it was right down there with Aquaman as one of the worst super hero movies ever.

Fucking hell that was hard to watch. The door buzzer scene nearly gave me a panic attack.

    Great film.
