I have finished the trilogy tonight.

    Matrix Revolutions - 5/10

I'm surprised to say I found this a lot better than Reloaded this time around. It's a lot less fucking drawn out which was very welcome. There's plenty of garbage in here... Monica Bellucci was reduced to a pair of tits, Trinity's final scene is still godawful and the entire Zion fight is absurd in many ways, but I actually really enjoyed how bonkers it gets towards the end. The journey into the machine world is pretty cool and the special effects are really rather good there. The sentinels generally are very well animated. The superman final showdown between Smith and Neo looked terrible though. The slo-mo punch is not good.

A fun trilogy to revisit. The second two are not good, but a lot more interesting than most blockbusters these days, it must be said. Will be keeping an eye on 4 for sure.

    Hope everyone is ok.

    Few I have watched recently

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - 9/10
I am a big QT fan but this draws you in with the setting and never overdoes the nostaglia like some films doing a Peter Kaye (Ooo remembers this? What were that all about?, etc) Great cast especially Bradley Pitts and the ending is extremely satisfying. Don't think the soundtrack is a good as I was expecting though. Watched it twice in a week and enjoyed the second viewing more.

    End of Watch - 7/10
First part reminded me of an updated Hill Street Blues then got all proper South Central on our arses. Gyllenhaal and Pena are excellent and it's filmed in a docu/drama style despite the plot being predictable.

    The Lobster - 5/10
Somewhere between very dark Wes Anderson and Coen Bros with great bleak design and cast but found the last half hour very depressing.

    O.J.: Made in America - 10/10
One of the most in-depth and fascinating documentaries I've ever watched. Nearly eight hours long but never dragged at all and watched over a couple of nights. He definitely did it

    Guns Akimbo. 75/100

Its good - if you liked the the recent Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey film, there's a similar feel to the settings, violence etc. Perhaps a lot more gory.

    LotR two towers

Really enjoyable. I'd never realized how much of a war movie it is.

If you enjoyed End of Watch, you should catch up with the TV series Southland.

It's vastly superior. Never made much of an impact here and got chucked around channels.

That Naked Gun clip had me in stitches the first time I saw it. It's such a shame what happened afterwards.

    33 1/3, especially.

    1917

I'm not quite sure what the fuss was about. It's not a bad film by any means, but not quite the second coming I'd seen from some quarters. It starts off well, then devolves into a bunch of random encounters with the lead making some terrible decisions. There's some decent tension at the end to redeem it a bit.

It looks pretty amazing, but yeah it didn’t blow me away either. The lead who dies can’t act for shit.

It's not really 'fair' to judge 1917 outside a fuck off IMAX screen. It's that sort of movie

Do you think that Norbit, projected on to an IMAX screen, would similarly make it a better film?

Southland is absolutely excellent, and you're right, very rarely hear it mentioned.

Really good long story arc on the central characters, one in particular.

    Alita: Battle Angel

I remember watching Battle Angel Alita with a friend back in the nineties and it being one of the best anime available through the Manga label at the time. Which is why it pains me that this adaptation is a bit guff.

Clunky script, completely unnecessary rollerball subplot crowbarred in just so they could have a pod race moment, huge gaps in the plot, and all mystery removed from the original story because Rodriguez and Cameron wanted a backstory and the possibility of sequels. Even the visuals are hit and miss.

Might be mildly diverting if you hadn’t seen the original, but this could and should have been much better. Not sure how they could mess it up so badly to be honest. Makes me think maybe Rodriguez was never that great of a director.

    Aftermath

Not your typical Arnie film, although you do know the moment you see him have a happy life with his family some shit's about to go down. It's quite a sombre film, that has a dark turn, but quite watchable.

Any Which Way But Loose and
    Any Which Way You Can

Clint hits some guys. Clyde blows a raspberry. Sondra Locke murders some country and western songs. Clint hits some cartoon Hell's Angels. Right turn Clyde! Clint hits some cops. Clyde shits in a car. Clyde gets laid.

    Perfection.

Apparently there's loads of cowboys and country bars in California that I never knew existed.

    (Ape) sex out of ten.

The sequel's pretty shit, but William Smith is great, and the fight at the end is epic.

    Birds of Prey

I'll admit that I'm one of the deviants who enjoyed Suicide Squad. I quite like Harley's character, and that remains true for this. She's no Cynthia Rothrock, but she can move, and knows how to swing a bat. I also really enjoy watching her face, her expressions are wonderful. The story is so-so, but the real weak link was Ewan McGregor - I usually like him, but he's a poor villian in this.
