Possibly the best comedy of the last 20 years and a movie I can watch time and time again

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

It's a bit of a mess. There are a few fun sequences. I'm quite fond of the weird pseudo-Western planet Nimbus 3 and it's knock-off Cantina. And of course, the line "wear does God need a starship?" Is pretty awesome. And props to the massively over engineered marshmallow producer.

But it lacks the narrative focus of the better Trek films. It's just not very tightly written, and there are pacing issues abound. And it's very Kirk-heavy, unsurprisingly as it's directed by Shatner.

    6/10

    2036: Origin Unknown

A fairly low key sci fi staring Katee Sackhoff, investigating a crash on Mars and the artifact that is found there. Sackhoff's character has to work with an A.I which, predictably, she doesn't fully trust.

Sackhoff does a good job but the film just didn't do much for me. The areas that it explores have been done better elsewhere, so it comes across as derivative of 2001, Moon, and Ex Machina,

It's an oddly sterile film, and just want as interesting as it should have been. Not as smart or intelligent as it wants to be either.

    5/10

Love Role Models but Superbad just pips it for me.

    Both hilarious though.

    Alita
Really enjoyed it, could have done with more of a threat and conclusion, I'm sure that will come in part 2. Anyway good fun and not overly long.

80%...I have never heard of the source material

    A History of Violence 10/10

Such a good film, violence begets violence. Amazing cast, Mortensen & Maria Bello never better. The tension in the last scene...wow.

    1917 7/10

Engrossing enough despite a simplistic storyline. There hasn't really been enough WW1 films imo so this was certainly worth a watch.

I did find the single takes distracting at times but you can't help but be impressed with the technical craft. The cameo appearances from established actors was also slightly glaring.

    Overall well worth a watch.

    Battle Angel Alita - 5/10

Pretty to look at in parts and some of the action scenes were decent. The script was properly awful though, and there didn't really seem to be a plot. Utterly forgettable.

That's next on my watch list but mostly for Jennifer Connelly.

I wouldn't be watching it just for Jennifer Connelly, she's not in it very much.

I think she has around 10 minutes screen time in total. Which is still somehow 9 minutes more than Ed Norton.

Superbad is funnier but it's probably aged worse. Role Models is more heart warming though.

I probably need to watch role models again. I've seen it twice yet thought it was so vanilla I can remember almost nothing about it.

Superbad is classic though (it has aged in parts granted)

    The Gentlemen

Man from uncle, King Arthur and Aladdin were all turds, but this is easily Ritchies best movie since the last Sherlock he did.

Saying that, itís nowhere near Snatch or Lock, Stock....it feels more generic and Ritchie seems to have curbed his unique directing style, which is a shame.

Still an enjoyable movie though, if a little forgettable.

    Dunkirk

Every now and then a film comes out which is universally praised as being brilliant and I usually find them a bit meh.

Technically brilliant but as a film itís not that great and lacks any real tension pace or excitement.

Everyone loves this but I just donít like Dunkirk at all and will never understand the love for it.

    6/10 for me

@bone-on I didn't like this either, dull as dishwater, can barely remember it now, moved it permanently into the 'archive never unlock' part of my brain.

I think Dunkirk was worth a watch, but agree it wasn't a stand out film.

    MacGruber.

A skit on 80s and 90s action movies and TV shows. Kinda a weird balance of jokes but lots of good stuff.

8/10 if a bit drunk. No other score available at this time.

    Spenser Confidential

Imagine the worst film you've ever seen.

Now imagine that film taking a shit.

Now imagine the worst film you've ever seen's shit making the worst film it can think of.

This film wishes it was as good as this

    The Evil Within

I really liked this. It takes a simple idea and runs with it and produces some effective horror along the way. It did lose it's way a bit towards the end, but then redeemed itself in the final moments.

    8/10

Guilty pleasure of mine. So many scenes I love. I like his pathetic begging at various points in the movie such as below. Only found out today they're making a series of it.

    The Gentlemen

Well that was fun. I wasn't hugely struck by the structure - I preferred the pub yarn style of Snatch and Two Smoking Barrels, but the actual story was fun, with some good scenes. It had me chuckling a few times as well.

    7/10

Gave this a go tonight based on the above.

Not a patch on Superbad and couldn't even get past the half way mark, absolute rubbish.

Watched Extraction instead, that was surprisingly decent.

Nothing revolutionary but enjoyable action romp, though a bit too violent for the missus.

7/10 (wife gave it 6 fwiw)
