Registered 8 years agoI remember going to a midnight showing of AotC and thinking this could be second to TESB in my pecking order. In hindsight I think it is easily the worst of all the Star Wars films.
Personally, I think that TPM is pretty good. Far from great, but it has enough to keep me interested. But I think that there are aspects of the prequels that are really good. Just the story and a lot of the acting are bobbins. I blame Francis Ford Coppola for saying Lucas should not delegate some of the roles. -

Registered 9 years agoCan you imagine being someone like Christopher Lee and being given THAT script and having to do the entire film in front of a green screen. And fight what was probably a basketball covered with ping pong balls at the film’s climax?
He did a good job to not completely phone it in. -

Eva Green prepares for a space mission while looking after a child (sort of). I do like Eva Green, and she is decent in this. I would have preferred more about the mission than the family life - especially when she makes a big deal about being treated the same as everyone else and then proceeds to break protocol whenever she pleases to see her daughter. Overall though an interesting watch.

Enjoyed this. Worried at first as it starts of a bit Oscar bait, but to the film credit it completely pulled me in. It's looks lovely, but it as that Oscar pristineness to everything, which Christian Bale completley cuts through with his Brummie version of Frank Spencer. It's odd at first, but you get used to it, and he anchors the whole film. Enjoyed his performance a lot. Cup of tea! The car sequences are fantastic, a evolution of Rush, but as some fantastic interior shots, especially the front facing ones going into corners, almost rollercoaster esq.
What starts of Oscar bait turns into an effective and well told narrative. If you aren't familiar with Ken Miles story it throws in a couple of good curve balls (whether things become Chekov's guns or not). Despite its 2hr 30 min run time the script is tight and trim and this translates into a well edited film.
A good watch . Probably will turn into my go to 'dad' film. Would like to know how they got Ferrari and Ford on board with this as well. Both don't come out with it in flying colours.
4.5/5
Talking of Ken Miles, I've got a pretty decent grasp of Motorsport history but I never heard of him before. Like I know, about John Surtees quitting Ferrari Le man team on that very race, but I don't ever recall Miles being mentioned in the history books at all. Everyone knows of Moss, Hill, Fangio etc. His story is a remarkable one that the film gets mostly right (a couple of things happened differently but resulted in the same consequences). Odd that he is still relatively unknown or more of a cult figure. Perhaps my grasp on motorsport history isn't as good as I thought it was.

Agree 100% and as a big motor sport nut myself loved the film.
At first I thought wtf is Christian Bale doing with this character and accent but it turns out to be a great performance which anchors the whole film.
Also found the final scene with Matt Damon talking to Bales kid quite sad.

Probably could have done with being a little shorter and either get Craig to speak with an accent or just relocate the whole thing somewhere else. Other than that I liked it, hated the book.
