Letís get rid of new page weirdness!

I just watched ĎRelicí. An absorbing Australian horror with a take on interesting theme around Dementia.

Elements of the Babadook and The Grudge in there. Worth a late night watch.
    7.5/10

Oh, I've seen that advertised. Was considering a watch - think you've probably tipped me over into doing so.

What's Relic being shown on? I read about that a few weeks ago and quite fancied it.

Relic is available on Netflix Canada. Obviously, a VPN would be needed if you're not actually in Canada.

I thought the opening 2/3's were a little too uneventful but I liked what it did in the final third.

    Prisoner X

The CIA interrogate a traveller from the future. It turned out better than I expected - reasonably well constructed and clever how they put it together on what looks to have been a smallish budget. For this type of story I'd rate the reveal better than many.

    7/10

    Greenland - 7.5/10

The film looked okay for the trailers and Gerard Butler (like Nicholas Cage) is one of those actors that no matter how shit the film looks, I'll still watch it. Turns out I liked this more than most disaster films I've seen.

One of the reasons for this I suppose is how depressingly plausible the whole scenario seems. People watching the news as comet fragments go plummeting into Earth and stood there filming the events on their phones. The way the film is shot and the tone gives it a very much grounded interpretation.

It hit all the right notes for me. There were some scenes of genuine tension in there and it kept me hooked throughout. It keeps the people doing stupid things to a minimum and I certainly think if something like this was to happen there would be a lot more chaos.

Much better than expected. I would watch this as a double-bill with Geostorm. Two polar opposites in terms of approach and quality but I like them both. Butler and Cage need to do a film together. Den of Thieves 2 please.

Nightcrawler - 10/10, best film I've seen for ages. I worship at the alter of the mighty Gyllenhaal.

    Archive

A man lives alone at a research facility and builds robots - to be honest, he's a bit of a dick and I did feel some sympathy to his creations - especially 02. It's quite a familiar tale, but engaging and does manage a few surprises along the way.

    7/10

After the first half of Monster Hunter

"Fuck it, I could just start a new film now that'll be ten times better!"
    Predator 2 is that film...

Ah yeah, so he was... I'll have to rewatch nightcrawler tonight too in that case as I clearly don't remember it well...

JG is definitely one of my favourite actors. Apart from the occasional dud like prince of Persia he seems to pick parts in consistently great films.

    Terminator (1984)

T2 would be better if it didn't have the screeching child and didn't fanny about in the middle. This one is actually tense and as close as the series got to a sci-fi horror. Gets a yearly rewatch.

Nearly 40 years old now, though. Does show its age a fair bit, at times.

    9/10

Also, Bill Paxton's in it and he's dead now

    Borat 2 - 8/10

A lot better than I expected. Made me laugh quite a lot. But definitely felt weird watching it compared to the first one given how the world has changed in the intervening period. Parts of it feel like punching down. Nothing a funny accent can't fix though eh!!!!!11

I watched terminator this week too. The only thing that marks it down for me is the soundtrack: when itís good itís really good but when itís bad itís appalling.

    Escape Room

I think Cube did it better and with a simpler, if more mysterious, set up. Still it's not too bad, if a bit silly in places.

    6/10
