    The Empty Man - 7/10

10 out of 10 for the director getting this made and (eventually) released at its full runtime and for absolutely swinging for the fences for his directorial debut.

Beautifully shot, fantastic (near half an hour!) prologue, and then despite having the full runtime of another film on top of that it still has far too much to cram in. The last third is full of superb imagery.

1/10 for the generic bogeyman trailer which massively undersells and misleads.

    Infinity War on Disney+

I decided not to extend my D+ sub, so I have until the end of the month to get through the stuff I want to watch. I guess this may be on US Netflix, but here itís just... there.

People wisecrack and fight and die.

Itís very entertaining. Iíve watched a ton of Marvel films, though none recently and I missed more and I found I remembered just bits and pieces and scenes. This did cause some confusion but nothing game-breaking. Subtitles helped, as they often showed the name of the person speaking and that helped with the characters I didnít recognise.

The whole save Vision storyline is stupid. Some small niggles otherwise. I canít believe they did what they did at the end and I canít help but think theyíll be turning it all around in Endgame. Iím planning to find out tomorrow.

    8/10

No Endgame is all about the 50% of sentient life just getting on. Economy is stable, wildlife improves, the world doesnít miss groot. Itís three hours of canal trips mostly.

Endgame absolutely needed an hour lopping off it. I got a bit sad at the end with Iron Man but the best stuff was all the first hour.

A Russian take on Alien. It takes a while to get going and the payoff isn't really worth the wait.

    Just a bit meh.

Incendies 9/10 Early Denis Villeneuve film. It has been sitting in my pile of shame for ages. I am an idiot.

Absolutely riveted throughout, Villeneuve is probably the best director currently working and the cast is beyond brilliant.

One of those films that will stay with you for weeks after.

The title means fires in French and its perfect for the conclusion of this film.

The issue I have with Incendies is that the twist is ridiculous. The film is miserable enough without AND THEN THIS BEYOND IMPROBABLE THING HAPPENS.

Stranger things have happened IRL especially in that part of the world in those times, I grew up in Cyprus for a year and a bit when it was having similar troubles, sounds like you wouldn't believe some of shit I witnessed there, but it happened.

Anyway makes the film, tough watch at times, agreed, but I got carried along by the performances and the "slightly" optimistic conclusion. but thankfully not a Hollywood ending

Yeah, all the leads were brilliant tbh. Will definitely check out City Slickers at some stage (although it's a 90s film!). I think Spinal Tap has to be next, though, greatest film ever according to a lot of people.

    Jason and the Argonauts

I've not watched this in too many years and it's a stone cold classic. I do enjoy Greek mythology and this takes you back to when real heroes had body hair. One of the greatest adventure films ever.

@TechnoHippy Picked it up on BluRay at Christmas since it wasnít on TV. The family tolerated it... me? Loved it. The skeleton fight is sublime and Talos will always be a favourite too.

Still got Clash, Flash and... Krull to watch again at some point.

I watched Jason and the Argonauts over Christmas and it's aged really well.

Clash of the Titans not so much, and 7th Voyage of Sinbad is pretty awful.

    Godzilla (1998)

The French create a new species and the Americans try to wipe it out. I know that it's breaking the Nerd Code to like this, but |I'm not ashamed. I like its approach of treating it as an animal, rather than a superhero. The humour can be hit and miss, but mostly lands. The effects have dated a little, but are generally fine. And I do feel for the poor critter at the end.

I really dislike the young reporter though.

    8/10

@barchetta I really want to watch Krull again but I can never find it to stream.

It's available to rent but pretty certain I'm going to think it hasn't aged well and regret paying to rent it. Hoping it'll come up on an Amazon/Netflix at some point.

I choose not to pirate. I know. I'm weird.

(Not judging anyone that does though, just a personal preference).
