    Shadow in the Cloud (2021)

ChloŽ Grace Moretz boards a bomber during WWII on a secret mission and encounters SEXISM and GREMLINS.

This is three films smashed into one and none of them are up to much. This film infamously had a script by sex gremlin Max Landis before his name was taken off the credits, and it's the same sort of onanistic, high-concept schlock like Bright you can imagine he touched himself whilst writing, so pleased was he with his genre-smashing abilities. IT'S LIKE THE TWILIGHT ZONE, BUT WITH GIRL POWER. Not sure why you'd want to homage the Twilight Zone either, Max, considering how well that turned out for Dad.

The gremlin looks cool, like a big bat, and the effects are pretty good for a cheapish production, but the device of having the film centre on ChloŽ Grace Moretz in the belly gun while the rest of the crew scream sexist remarks UNCEASINGLY at her over the radio makes this feel a hell of a lot longer than it actually is. And the ending is a damp squid.

3 gremlins out of Joe Dante.

I wasted over 30 Euros on the German 4k disc of this, I advise others to nein, keine lust.

    AI - 6/10

This could've been something really worthwhile. In its final form it's a bit average, even if you discount the saccharine ending.

How did Max Landis escape being MeTooíd out of the industry?

Every article about him says its pretty much an open secret what heís like and heís one to wang on about stuff like Rey ruining Star Wars with her ovaries like a Ďlogic and reasoní incel for all to see himself

The Force Awakens From its Nap (Disney +)

Look at all the IPs Disney owns!

Not funny. Not interesting. Barely even attempts be coherant.

4 minutes of your life you could be wanking.

    0/10

@anephric Wasn't ChloŽ Grace Moretz also in that cancelled Louis CK movie too? Maybe she has a thing for sex gremlins.

    Shazam 6/10

Itís a bit rubbish and could have been an early 2000ís film. Zach Levy is good in his role, even if the character is a bit irritating, but the overall plot is so pedestrian that anything good is wasted.

Iím also sick of Mark Strong as the bad guy in these things.

    Once Upon a Time...In Hollywood

Pitt and DiCaprio are both excellent, although that is not to undermine everyone else who also pulls out all the stops to deliver cracking performances. Tarantino certainly has a knack for getting the best out of his actors.

Anyway, another solid movie from Quentin.

    8/10

@Sheckelberg Hi whoever you used to be.

Next film you should watch is Audition, the 1999 version. Should be able to rent it from Amazon.

Audition is something I really wish I could watch for the first time again. The best way is to watch it not knowing that it's a horror film. But you can't really put the genie back in the bottle once it's out.

There's a US version of Martyrs?

Is there a big difference? Did they do anything new/different or is it just a straight down the line remake of the same thing?

    Stowaway - Netflix

Slow burn doesn't quite do it justice and very little actually happens over its run time. Outside of it's ridiculous setup, the dramatic bits just aren't very dramatic, the exciting bits not that exciting and overall it's rather flat. With a better director and a few tweaks it could have been pretty good instead of just average. Having said all that, I quite enjoyed it, the acting was mostly solid and it didn't outstay it's welcome. Mrs Hermit on the other hand thought it was a load of wank and disappeared off to do the washing up halfway through, such was her contempt.

    Slowaway/10

Well something good came of it all if you got the washing up done without having to help

The other notorious French "Extremity" flicks are L'Interieur (oh my so edgelord), Frontiers (fairly naff hills have eyes ripoff), Haute Tension (pretty stylish and decent) and notoriously Irreversible, which I can't stand but if Noe floats your boat, have at it.

The best of all of them is Calvaire, which is Belgian, but is darkly humourous rather than just pointlessly edgy and tries to subvert genre clichťs rather than just promulgating them with more extremity.

That was more to the theme of disturbing films in general rather than french or belgian ones

Although i do recall a rather grim one set around the cattle industry and steroids but cant recall the name
