28 weeks later - 6/10- Quite enjoyed this but it was quite a bit inferior to the first film. It did have some great scenes though with the opening of the film being the stand out. -----Spoiler below----- Robert Carlyle popping up constantly once he got infected and just how he got infected were pretty annoying plot holes. |

That was the aspect that pretty much ruined the film for me.
That and it was about an hour over-length.

Registered 17 years agoStar Wars IV A New Hope. 9/10. Was on telly yesterday. So I watched it on DVD. I win. -
Is it true that Lucas is releasing all the originals untouched and calling them the Star Trilogy: The Retro Editions or some such bollocks? -

I watched this for the first time this weekend too. I LOVED it. I watched it on my PC wearing headphones in a dark room, while juiced up on caffeine (via Red Bull @ LAN party) which probably added to the brutality and feeling of chaos.
I'd give it a solid 9/10. I think I prefer it to the original in fact. -

Overall it's a much more consistent film in that you can apply a rating to the whole film as opposed to the first one which had a considerably better first half than second half...

The seemingly unkillable intelligent zombie named above was the weakest point of the second one for me, but that opening was absolutely BLINDINGLY brilliant. -

The last DVD release featured the original versions .. though I bought them but havent watched them yet (apparently without the restoration work they havent aged well) -

Surely not? Fucking hell, I've lost count the number of times the Star Wars trilogy has been re-released.
I remember the moment that I lost my love for Star Wars: it was when I walked out of the cinema after watching the remastered version of one of the original trilogy. -

Yeah, they released them about 6 to 12 months ago on DVD, there's a thread here somewhere about it. I seem to recall people weren't happy with the tranfer or aspect ratio or something. I didn't buy them. I've got the originals on video, the special editions on video and DVD so thought I ought to draw the line somewhere. No doubt I'll get 'em on high definition in the future cos I'm a huge sucker.

Amusingly enough I still haven't gotten them all despite my love mainly because of Lucas' habit; I keep thinking - I'll wait for all 6 to come out in a bundle". I am now waiting for all six to come out in a high def bundle... -

I'd almost forgotten how STUNNINGLY FUCKING BRILLIANT/COOL this movie could've been, if Spielberg hadn't forgotten about the magic 15:1 ratio of giant alien mech walkers smashing puny human military hardware vs. soppy family-drama bollocks.

Registered 18 years agoDie Hard 4.0 (Ultimate Action Edition).. would be interested to see what I rated this in the old thread from my viewing at the cinema but going to give it a solid 8/10.. the action set pieces for the most part were excellent, and for the remainder I am assuming tongue was firmly in cheek. Couldnt really notice what had been added to this supposed extended addition as I'm sure he said the famous "Yippee Kay Ay" line in UK cinemas but he definitely does in the DVD.
But 2 things I wish Hollywood would give up on.. 1) Doing anything remotely "techie" in films it is always so embarassingly wrong and 2) Ok Parkour is cool but we can get to much of a good thing try not to include it in every film "for the sake of it" please -

If you didn't find anything worthy in the mothers predicament then you can :edit: and watch Saw4 or summin.
The mother was the 5 points i gave it. She started out interesting, but then it just got back around to drugs, so even though it was an addiction film to begin with, it just turned into a drug film with people i don't have any sympathy for.
Oh, and i did go watch Saw 4, 7.5/10. Not seen a Saw since the first one and it was alot better than i expected from a 4th in a series, not as gore intensive as the first, or as sadistic. Story was good, but was a little relient on the third, which i'd not seen (had to read up on wiki about some bits) but over all an entertaining film with a half decent premise and a good twist on the end. -
Saw 4

I enjoyed the story to some extent, if just to see how they managed to get out of the mess they put themselves in after 3.
However the trap scenes make me squirm terribly, they're just horrible.
After saw 1 I was hoping for an intelligent new horror series, what we got instead was one with more twists than one of the insane traps and a lot of blood. -

Pretty average action film with some pretty typically 'contrary' direction, but with enough good WTF moments to keep you entertained and make it worthwhile.
Jean Reno's stupid-face doesn't help much either. -

Registered 18 years agoI liked the film, the soppy stuff really only impacts at the end, yes it could have done without it.
But Spielberg captures the blind panic and impotency of the general population when faced by the invasion.
It could have done with the Jeff Wayne score in there somewhere, that would have been cool.
