It's a shame that Apocalypto didn't have the same accurate attention to detail principles as Emerich's masterpiece 10,000 BC. -
It's almost as good as One Million Years BC. -
I think that film was the first time I ever felt that "phwoar" sensation. -

Someone on this thread must have brought it to my attention originally and curiosity finally got the better of me.
I *think* someone made a zombie movie with a real sense of originality (although this isn't really a zombie movie). A beleagured radio station starts reporting on some very strange events in a small Canadian town. Had a real War of the Worlds radio play vibe... and a little very dark humour.
Odd, but well worth a watch. -

Registered 13 years agoI'm pretty sure I bought Pontypool the other week due to a few people in this thread giving it good reviews, haven't watched it yet but I'm looking forward to it.
The Horde - 7/10
This is a French zombie film set in a tower block which means it's The Raid with zombies.
If you've ever seen a zombie film before you know what you're getting. A few reviews compare it to Left 4 Dead and I'd say that's fair, it really does feel like you're watching someone play the game as everything from zombie numbers to fire power slowly escalates over time. One of the guys is even carrying a med pack for half the film.
It's on Netflix and almost worth a go just to see the crazy old man character. -

Zombies vs cockneys - 3/10 but some funny cockney accents when bashing the zombs. Pretty shit overall though.
K-Pak - 7/10 and left with the distinct feeling that he was an alien. Still not too sure though. Enjoyed the film. -

Synopsis: Ex-soldier becomes hit man to support family, but stops working after some traumatic event in Kiev scars him with PTSD. He gets a mysterious job. Shit gets real from there.
This film gets a lot of shit, but it's actually quite good. The genre-bending, distanced slow-boil approach works wonders. Also: dark humour and a very very creepy soundtrack.
Definitely stands up to a second viewing.

Powerful stuff, it'll take a couple of viewings to let it all sink in, but even on a first go it was pretty darn effective. It took a good 30+ mins for all the stories to start clicking together, but by the end I was tearing up like a gigantic baby.
The only distraction was the make up, sometimes it just looked... weird. Which took me out of the story a few times. -

It's been reclassified as a 15 uncut. The Odeon at The Printworks and The Trafford Centre had a showing tonight (as did probably all Odeons in the country). Went to see it at The Trafford Centre.
I'm sorry, but as good as a home entertainment system you may have, it will not beat seeing this film on a massive screen.
I'll do a proper post on why this is the greatest action film, greatest Xmas film and the greatest film ever.

Wasnt sure what to expect with this but was a great watch. Looked fantastic and thinking i should have dragged my lazy ass to the cinema to catch it in 3d -

Just finished reading the book, so naturally watching the movie version comes next. I love the setting, but the story was so thin. Loads from the book had been hacked out, which meant the film didn't have half the impact. Still, Max Von Sydow is great in his role. -

Yes i did, but by accident only.
There were several hints that he was intelligent, the copper from his home town mentioned he was a brain box, and couldn't undersand why he worked in an abattoir.. I think to just confuse things more.
I like the fact that it makes you think about what you have watched to try to work out the answer, not that i can 100% say.
