I've just imported the Oblivion game of the Year Edition, as I didn't want to wait over a month to play Shivering Isles (and no, I don't have a 360).

I thought I would be able to use my original game data, but when I popped in the GOTY disc, it said there was no data, but I know there is. 128 hours of it.

I don't know if it's the game itself not allowing the other data to work, or whether it's because it's a US copy, but is there a way to, I don't know, make the data work, because I really don't want to start again, not now.

    Thanks for your help.

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, cos I'd hate to lose 128 hours myself. With the 360 version you can use the old saves from the non-GOTY version with the GOTY version.... pity about the PS3 version though...

No imported game I've played has let me use the PAL region saves.

    Talking PS2 here.

Aye, it's because you've gone from UK to US version. Old saves deffo work between same region saves.

Oh well, I might just end up selling it and buying the UK version when it comes out. Thanks anyway.

Is this confirmed? It's basically the only thing holding me back from picking it up. :/

What, about the 360 version? Yep. True. You can use non-GOTY saves on GOTY.

you CAN use oblivion savegames with the GOTY edition but only european savegames with european discs and vice versa...

Isn't "GOTY Edition" a bit arrogant?

No, it's already won GOTY somewhere so this is the edition to celebrate it. I've seen other games do the same.

Gah, I'm holding out for the PS3 version rather than 360, but want all the extra little bits that are on Xbox Live (ie. the pirate ship etc). Are these going to appear on PSN at some point?

Alright. The PS3 doesn't 'do' PAL-60 (d'oh!), so will NTSC games work alright on an SD tele?

MOST do, i've had a few that didn't, the bigs and GT5 demo were both grey.

The downloadable version of Shivering Isles will be available next Thursday (29th November), likely at the same price as the 360 version: ~ £20.

Less encumberment, no movement speed penalty (although that is removed once you are a heavy armour expert) and stealth advantages, iirc.

As for your rogue: the levelling system in Oblivion is brutally broken, especially for anything that isn't an all-out melee or attack spells character.

By gaining points in your rogue skills, you level up too fast, at the cost of skills you need to survive in battles. Google for "efficient levelling" if you want - you'll be much better off if you want to play a rogue by making a custom class, and taking most of the important skills as secondary, not primary skills.

    Yes, it's bloody annoying.

It's not broken for one character class, it's broken for them all. The way to fix it is to start your charcater class, ie rogue, off as a weak version by making the skills that are important to you as minor skills, not major skills. That'll fix the bulk of your problems.

Light Armour is, ultimatly, the better of the two, but only at high levels does that bcome fully apparent.

The mechanics are broken as such, true, but it doesn't really matter for all classes. With a pure melee character (picking up melee skills as primary skills), you won't have much of a problem either way, for example. You won't have a maxed out character like when you circumvent the game mechanics, but it works well enough.

But that's true of any class. If you pick just magic as major skills you'll end up with a high int/wis mage. If you pick stealth stuff you'll end up with a high agility/speed thief.

    I disagree.

Heavy Armour might seem inconvenient, but it builds your Endurance, and that's the critical stat at lower levels, because HP per Level gains aren't retroactive. (seriously, you can pick any character you want as long as you get five points of Endurance a level until it hits 100)

Also, once you get to Master in heavy armour it's encumberance is 0 anyway, at high levels there is no difference other than aesthetics.

    @Lutz

Um, yes, but that's not my point. :)

It's true for all classes, but it doesn't matter as much for some classes as it does for others. Playing a pre-made barbarian won't give you much trouble even if you level fast, and without any thoughts wasted on efficient levelling.

Playing a bard, for example, can become a very frustrating experience, on the other hand, if you use the pre-made class and don't watch what you're levelling up.

Wait a second, wasn't it you who restarted the game because you were screwed with your class? Why don't you understand what I mean!? ;)
