    Variety covers the news here.

I feel a bit ill at the thought of it.

Plus Mike being a gun nut in a country where there's guns easily available rather diminishes his character, I bet he tried to invade Canada in this version too...

Johnny Alpha won't get a mention I'm sure.

Maybe they'll make him a pacifist.

God, I bet they make Brian into a crazy Kramer-style character.

Surely we know by now the Americans try to remake any good British series?

Anyone remember the Comedy Connections thing over red dwarf? They were thinking of casting Uma Thurman as Kochanski... part of me dies a little inside when you think of stupid shit like that...

    I know, let's remake Friends!

(Two Pints of Lager etc. and all that rubbish)

Er no, it's great. Especially once it stopped reusing the original show's scripts as a rough outline and went off in its own direction.

The Office has fairly universal themes which is why there's so many different versions of the show around the world. The same doesn't apply to Spaced.

In fairness, we did remake Who's the Boss? and The Golden Girls.

I sincerely hope whoever had that idea was on drugs and/or subsequently bludgeoned to death with a spoon for that...

Yep, The Brighton Belles, two seasons of it no less.

It was remade as "Brighton Belles" it was so horrible it got canned after 6 episodes were shown. 6 episodes too many.

The IMDB is slightly wrong there, it got pulled after 6 then the others were shown as filler.

Its their money. Let them do what they want with it. Might draw some more people to the originals.

I've seen pictures of it. And a Youtube clip someone posted once.

Looks too dumpy/nerdy/ordinary/British/officey for me. I was about to say "a bit like a Simon Pegg movie with Kaiser Cheifs on the soundtrack" but then of course this is a Simon Pegg show anyway.

My biggest worry is that the guy who did Will and Grace is in charge of adapting it. That fucking disgrace of a show is just a bunch of shitty acutely topical jokes strung together by all the characters having a common interest in cock.

Even his name is dumpy/nerdy/ordinary/British/officey. Pegg. PEGG, for crying out loud.

    /waits for the adaptation

Wonder if it will be as bad as the British version of Married With Children.

    Dear Lords,

Could you please stop this? If not, could you make it so that the remake is localised in such a way that it becomes indistinguishable from the original.

Could you also make sure that enough money lands in the right pockets so that there will be a 3rd spaced season made.

    /sincerely

Watch Spaced. I can't guess at what kind if personality wouldn't enjoy it

I'm sure there's someone around here who notoriously doesn't like it. Lutz, maybe?

Edgar Wright hasn't been consulted, neither has Simon. I guess everyone's forgotten this is as much Jessica Stevenson's baby as well. But maybe they're not as attached to the show as the fans are, who knows?

In any case, please god stop this happening!

Will it be set in a college milieu? In lieu of a flat share culture I mean.

No really, I just wanted to plant the fear. The fear of Tim turning into a fratboy. The fear of Brian as the art student. Mike as a jock (full back in the football team)

No really, I just wanted to use the word milieu...

I see Fox is interested in another UK comedy classic of yesteryear...
