Thinking about getting my first road bike. Anyone got any strong thoughts either way on the Specialized Allez E5 2020?

Seems to get a lot of recommendations as a good introduction to road bikes.

Itís a good bike, my first road bike was an Allez. Theyíve made it a bit more of an all rounder, sportive sort of ride, while it used to be an alloy Tarmac essentially. You canít really go wrong with any of the bikes in that price range, itís so competitive now and alloy tech is mature enough. Whatís your budget?

I was looking around the 600 - 850 mark. Could potentially go higher if it made a massive difference but most things Iíve read suggest you can get a good entry level for that budget.

Definitely. You might even get more bang for your buck seeing what Decathlon's Triban(?) or Wiggle/CRC's Vitus brands have for youÖ

Stick with a big brand name at that price point - you might get a slightly better spec with Decathlon et al, but the resale value is vastly better with Spesh, Giant etc and you wonít really notice any different when it comes to spec

The (decathlon) Van Rysell RR900 looks like a solid bike- full 105, Mavic wheels, ali frame and carbon fork-

I'm after a sanity check please, I need a couple of spare inner tubes, my tyre size is 28x2.15 so I want to get one of these https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/inner-tubes/schwalbe-sv19a-xlight-presta-tube-28-tyres-57584-40622-to-62622-40635/
    and one of these
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/inner-tubes/gaadi-double-ended-presta-valve-inner-tube-28-29-x-190-210-5054622/ this one is very slightly undersized but it's the widest double ended one that seems to be available (I have a hub gear and would sooner try and avoid having to disconnect the cable if it was pissing down with rain and/or was dark for example).
I just wanted to make sure I'm getting the right sizes before I order, TIA :)

Iíve never seen a double ended inner tube before, I need to get out more.
Yeah, thatíll be absolutely fine- itís an estimate and tyres end up at slightly different widths depending on manufacturer and rim width.

Any thoughts on Grinduro [Wales]? Looks fun, and the timed sections appeal.

I looked at that, thought it had sold out?
Sounds like a great structure though- chill with your mates and enjoy the scenery in between and then hammer the timed sections.

Iím doing the ďgravelfondoĒ in Wales in September as itís similar.

Yeah, I've had friends do it and they seemed to like it. Sells out fast though.

Anyone interested in buying my CycleOps Magnus smart turbo trainer off me? I've only used it 3 or 4 times and have decided to go for a Peloton bike instead.

    https://www.cycleops.com/product/magnus

I think was about £280 new, so would be looking for something like £150 + postage (it's pretty heavy)

It's effectively in 'as new' condition, with all of the bits and box etc. Happy to send pics
