The drive is in FAT format. I'm trying to view them on the USB drive. fake-edit: thanks, didn't know about the Display All function. That's done it. Odd. |
Why won't my PS3 see my MP4 files?

Registered 11 years agoNext time you pop the USB drive in the PC add the correct PS3 file structure in there.
PS3/VIDEO
You can also add MUSIC & PICTURE too.
If you do that it should just pop up. -
Yeah, I've got VIDEO, MUSIC and PICTURE folders on the drive. It was showing me the folders the video file is in but no video file itself - until I Displayed All. As I say, it's odd. -

Why would they patch it? It's an intentional UI design feature. Be it stupid or not. -

I think you answered your own question there. -

Registered 8 years agoPlay your converted mp4 file on the PC using VLC player.
During playback, select Interface > Codec Information > Codec details ( from the context menu);
I have experienced that if Stream 0 is set to Audio and Stream 1 to Video, PS3 will play the file.
But if Stream 0 is Video and Stream 1 Audio, PS3 won't play the file.
I've tried converting FLV files to MP4 and encountered this problem.
The only converter that I've found that will set the streams compatible is the VLC player itself, but one problem is that audio and video was out of sync.
Although this is not a solution I think this is the root problem.
Hope this helps, and somebody knowledgable is able to help out. -

Registered 6 years ago@SeesThroughAll (USB) You need to put in a folder called VIDEO, just try it then put it at the front of the USB and BAM! -

As above put them in a folder called VIDEO and it should work.
Or you can press triangle and choose "display all"
Even it it can play the video the ps3 should at least find the file. -

Registered 13 years agoFYI for encoding I would suggest using 'Handbrake'; setting to the high profile works fine and I've been using that with my PlayTV recording for some time.
Make sure content is stored in a VIDEO folder in the root of the FAT formatted USB drive or you will have to 'display all' via the triangle button as others have mentioned. -
